And ... and ... last summer it looked like it would be fun to get out of the Chicago suburbs & live on the river ... my b/friend has a weekend place a mile upstream & it's great & all his neighbors seem fine. So a fixer-upper on the river seemed like a good way station & investment for me & I still have a pool plus a canoe. What's not to like about being able to paddle around with the dog?

But I just was not prepared for what rural Illinois is like when you're down here full time. A lot of these homes are former fishing shacks populated by poorly socialized people who probably couldn't hack "town living." And Kankakee is virulently racist & segregated & this town has hit really hard times.

OK, enough of my own personal blog.

Move

Hey SUMMERKID,

Take some advice from someone that knows "REDNECKS" and can speak from an extensive knowledgeable background - turn up your speaker on your PC - MOVE.
Do it soon, don't look back take the loss.

Had a beautiful neighborhood where I once lived transition to one like you just described when the casinos moved in and we got alot of unknowns move in to all the camp/summer houses. Things only went downhill from there.

Katrina took care of most of it.

I know how you feel. We just had "The Neighbors From Hell" finally move out, after about 6 months of 2 barking and loose dogs, trail bike and ATV riding until 11:30 at night. Mowed their lawn ONCE since they moved in. We mow ours twice a week, as does everyone else on the street. Now the house is for sale, (they were renters) for a pretty penny. Hopefully someone responsible will buy it, and move in.

64Lawncondo has a nice dent in the back of her trailer which occured while her neighbors were trimming a tree. She has the pic on display in her profile.

Outside of saying there is a hail storm coming, your issue would be one of the top 2.

The good news ...

... Yukionna was right. After the tree came down & I was checking on the trailers around 1 p.m., the neighbor came stalking over & said, "You probably think I'm ignorant. My name's Chrissy. I need a shot. You want one?"

Long story short, the windows were covered because her 2nd husband in 4 years had kicked the bucket last fall & some guy on the make was harassing her late at night ... all the mattress pads are down, the windows are open now, turns out the hung monkey is the mascot for her boat, the baby-on-a-birdhouse is "mooning" her, she's going to use her trailer to haul my pontoon dock down to the boat launch when she puts hers in, i WILL learn to fish, if she bothers with men again her next husband will be black, she's .... well, a total chain-smokin', shot-drinkin', trash-talkin', river-fishin' guy magnet.

What's not to like? I mean, the vodka shots were already poured & in the fridge. (I begged off in lieu of an MGD.)

Do you have a picture of the boat?

Oh, and her son is in prison & she's had to buy her daughter 5 new cars. "Don't even ask," she said.

Her boat? Actually, it's a state-of-the-art, beautifully maintained pontoon boat with a motor that I know had to set her back 11k.

Or MY "boat." It's an old pontoon boat with no motor that the previous owners used as a dock & kindly left up on blocks out in the front yard for me to puzzle over.

I'd never heard of a pontoon boat before July but they're actually kinda cool.

Isn't it funny how things work? When I first posted this morning, I was in a panic, about to call the first real estate agent in the phone book, totally depressed & suicidal.

Five hours later? The world seemed a whole different place.

But sorry, Pick. No go. And I quote: "Yeah, word gets around about a rich widow like me, perverts start sniffin' around all over the place," she said. "But I'm through with men. I'd probably just put the next one in the grave too."

Chrissy & I are going to get along GREAT.

... as long as the son stays in prison. Be just my luck to fall in love with some recently paroled liquor-store thief.

Amazing what a few well placed MGDs can do....really....and she was not as think as you drunk she was.

Least she didn't say "you got purdy teef" as she pulled your bottle cap off with her root stubs.

Yep, I can see it now. BBQ and MGD every Saturday with the neighbors from now until Hell actually does freeze over. Good greif, what have you gotten yourself into!

You know, Kid. You really do have a colorful life. At least the parts you tell us about. What is it you do for a living again? Something nice and bland like city cop in downwtown Chicago?
