Zero for 20

Zero trick-or-treaters in 20 years. I'm always stocked with full size Hershey bar, end up having to eat them myself. Something about the guy in the Mountie Uniform with the giant toaster trailer a mile down that second dirt road to the left, past the crik and round the bend...through the snow both ways...seems to scare them off.

I only want one.

BIG FAT ZERO!!!

Most of the kids around here seem to go to the downtown area and trick-or-treat at the retail stores & surrounding streets. Most of the houses are vintage and they really go all out in decorating for the occasion. When my son was younger we did the same.

Every year Gemma buys tons of candy in hopes that we'll have some visitors. Every year Murray dutifully eats all of the candy that wasn't distributed.

We just relocated to a new town last month so we didn't really know what to expect. We asked some of the neighbors how many they usually have to get some idea of how many treats to stock up on so we had 120 treats ready to go.
It started good as we had the first 3 before 5pm which is a little earlier than the town we had moved from.By 6:30 we had 15 and that was it.
I feel a diet is a distinct possibility in the near future.

It rained so we only had about 200 down from the usual 400. The town blocked our street off to traffic and most of the neighbors get into the spirit of things. I made a big pot of chili for the adult neighbors.

We never have any trick or treaters. There really aren't any young kids in our neighborhood, and only 6 houses on our block (both sides). I don't buy any candy, I would just eat it myself. So on the off chance we ever did get any kids, they would get quarters instead.

None this year...we made sure to be "gone" by six. We went to a cozy, fancy fondue dinner with friends at a supposed haunted restaurant and listened to ghost stories. Fondue was yummy, company was great, ghost stories were, well....ghost stories!

We normally have 250-300 kids - we're on one of those streets that doesn't have any resident kids, but they sure come in from somewhere!

We had a fairly steady stream of kids from dusk until about 9pm when we put the lights out. It's always fun to see all the great costumes. And, of course, I wait for the kids that live next door (and know me) and I hide behind the gate and jump out and scare them.

Not a one. I saw a grand total of 5 kids on the street and they were on the other side. We live in a huge apartment complex with tons of kids!

Boy, do I miss Halloween!

Most people do not go house to house anymore because they are afraid of what some will do. It's just not the same.

I counted 77 little ones before I cut the porch lights off to join the adult Halloween party in town..lol
This is to sd90mac:
That depends on the "community spirits" of the town..
From what I witness here last night, there was a strong presences of adults everywhere with the kids. Heck, I even had a dressed up dog come up to the door.. That was cute.
Here in the state of Missouri, I just learned this last week:
If you are a registered sex offender, you are required to keep your porch light off and, stay indoor during Halloween. Otherwise, you will be arrested. Beyond that, I have no idea..
BTW..
Anyone looking for candy bar left overs..? I over bought~!

We haven't had many the past few years - ever since all the kids in the neighborhood that grew up with our kids all grew up and moved away. So, we buy candy we really like. This year we had 2 kids and 2 dads. They got lots of candy!

It was slower for us this year as well. Kids told us a few people were wearing latex gloves and masks handing the candy out.

What a range of visitors!!
In 1979 we moved into a highrise apt. living on the 14th floor - 0 trick or treators.
In 1985 we moved into a 2nd floor flat in an adult community - 0 trick or treators.
In 2000 we moved into a rural, gated, vacation community with no street lights and
very hilly. It is very dark when the sun sinks below the hills - 0 trick or treators.

So in 30 years, we've had ZERO costumed gremlins on Halloween. When I add the price of bags of candy up and multiply it over 30 years - there is a significant savings there. WOW!! It's hard to believe that some get 600 little beggars. Another benefit of country living we hadn't figured. We've never thought about this in the past - better keep it in mind should we contemplate a move away from our present home.

HAPPY HALLOWEEN TO ALL!!

I have some left over candy also. My sister lives in North Carolina, just north of Asheville, their town had a great Halloween for the kids, young and old. Many trick or treaters. maybe it's were we live. Maybe I'm just getting sentimental and wanting it to be like the "old days".

Well, there's always next year.

We had maybe 75 kids but here we make them work for it. Only a hundred or so houses in our neighborhood and half of those are elevated 10-12 feet off the ground. So, if the little devils do the whole neighborhood they've climbed and descended the equivilent of at least a 50 story building. My kids are shot after a couple hours of that business. I stand on the sidewalk and let them do the work.
