it would be interesting to see total number owned just by Forums members and how many of those are on the road, or really roadable and just happen to be laid up for some modification at the moment...

All 3 of mine are roadable, one of them in major mod for the winter.

All one of mine is roadworthy with some improvements taking place this off season.

Both of mine are roadable...but I don't think you want to actually stay in them I have heard the number of 60% of all Airstreams ever built are still on the road (and I take that figuratively)

Someone posted this!

In 2002 a/s was producing about 5-600 trailer per year...
this year they expect to produce 2100 trailers!
the work force has grown by 70% during that time....

A/S will tell you they have no way of knowing..As no records were kept in the early years.. Maybe close to 100k by now?? of that, maybe 60k still on the road??
Last years run was around several thousand..They only have two working shift, the last I heard..

If there are 60% still on the road, I lowered the average this year. I've owned 2 now, the first one was wrecked and totaled. We got rear-ended.

We have one on the road, and one with the shell off in the yard! Anyone starting a spreadsheet?

Interesting to know how many are on the road... I rarely see any. Heading to a rally tomorrow, so maybe I will have a sighting!

I'm always amazed at how few we actually see on our travels. The trailers we do see are 9 out of 10 times in a yard and the majority of those are not looking like they are ready for a trip. We have not travelled much this year versus other years but the few trips we have done have generated fewer than a dozen Airstreams total. It is amazing though how we both react when we do see one coming (or going) down the road. If we have ours in tow we feel really good and if we don't we feel rotten. I also know that friends who have had SOB's for years get just as excited when they see an Airstream now, and invariably I'll get an email or phone call telling me what they saw and where. I suspect that over time some of them will end up having to acquire one themselves because they are starting to realize that there's a lot more about owning and towing and camping with an Airstream than just having a trailer in tow.

I too am amazed at how few AS I see on the road. I travel some main interstates every week here in Oklahoma and I see at least 20 MH heading to the South each week. I am lucky to see one AS in a month. I have seen just one Argosy this year. I don't know where they are; however, I know they are not on Interstate 40, Interstate 35, or Interstate 44. My home is on old Route 66, with lots of people cruising down it in TT and MH. Never have seen anyone in an AS, except ME.
