How many airstreamers thinking of getting a new Bowlus trailer

Are you thinking of buying a new 2013-15 Bowlus trailer? Sure like them more aerodynamic then airstream and a lot lighter, and you can park them inside your normal height garage!

Do not think so. IMO nice but a bit pricy.

Isn't it cute when Airstreamers call out another trailer for being too expensive? Haha, I'm such a kidder.

Anyway, they are gorgeous and we'd love one, though the cassette toilet thingy kinda threw me off. Funny, I'm willing to wrestle with a stinky slinky but I can't get excited about carrying a loaded honey bucket around the campground looking for a place to dump it.

I'm sure other, smarter, campers would get right past that issue and have wonderful experiences in a modern Bowlus. They really do look amazing on the web. I'd love to see one in person!

New construction - around $110,000 base price for 2015.

Here you go. Shop and drool to your heart's content: http://www.bowlusroadchief.com/

It's a beautiful website, and it looks like a gorgeous trailer with a fascinating history. Fans of towing with small vehicles, take notice of this one.

OK, I looked it up. It's cute and all, but it's definitely not me.

I like sitting under my big awning, with the door right there. I like my big bathroom. I like my walk around queen bed. I like all my kitchen space. I like all the room in my "living room" at the front of my AS. I like my cedar lined wardrobe. I'm not willing to give any of that up.

It would be nice to tow, but at some point you have to live in it.

The interesting part is that you could tow it with a Subaru.

More interesting thing is that they have incorporated design that Thor needs to pay attention to. Although a composting toilet would be a better choice....

For the Airstreamer who has everything, perhaps one of these for overnighters...

Nope, not for me.

As an aside, Bob Bowlus, Hawley Bowlus' nephew was one of my chemistry profs. I believe he worked in the factory for his uncle prior to WW 2.

The Bowlus is the perfect "a place for everything and everything in its place" habitat. Beautiful, small, elegantly designed and engineered, and light enough to be towed by nearly anything.

They speak to the cassette issue in an 11/4 blog post: http://www.bowlusroadchief.com/blog/

I've not owned a composting toilet, so I have no idea what it's like to clean one of those out in comparison to dumping a cassette.

Pretty... and pricey, but they are basically handbuilt one at a time. No issue with the cassette potty. We had one on our Coleman popup, not a real hassle to deal with. We would usually dump it at the dump station on the way out, or if the line was too long, down the sewer cleanout at our house.

The bowlus link above is well worth it. This outfit seems to have carried the original Hawley-inspired AS concept to its logical modern form. Finally, someone that can prod AS to lighten and re-modernize the design. I hope they become a going concern.

As for the cassette toilet, apparently this is the usual design in Europe. It has its pros: ease of dump in any restroom, and cons: small capacity, frequent dumping.

There is a video including this point at:LongLongHoneymoon

And they appear to have done away with plywood sub-floors.

Looks like it would be awkward using the front door and having to step over the tongue. I couldn't find a clear picture of this.

Nice looking trailer. Love the streamlined look in the back.

Pictures, please! I'd love to see any photos you can post that highlight your experiences and how you're using it...and how that cassette toilet is working out.

What a beautiful trailer ,seen the original 1935 at airstream factory in March this year,Realy streamlined ,and looks like you can see down both sides of trailer without mirror extensions , less drag equals better fuel economy,I bet it pulls like a dream , wish I had one!

Per BearScream's video pointer to LoLoHo above, if you don't want to watch the whole video, just skip ahead to 9:15 and watch to 11:15. Looks like, as wahoonc suggested, it's not that big of a deal to dump a cassette.

Here's that video link again, just in case: Long Long Honeymoon | #Loloho » Blog Archive » VIDEO: Airstream Camping IN GERMANY
