Reminds me of something that happened this summer. A guy who had been in and out at the campground where I was staying had become friendly with me over time. Late in the summer he had his son (40ish) out with him and wanted him to see my AS. He took one look at it and said something to the effect that he had seen newer and bigger ones . I could tell his dad was embarassed to no end, and I knew there was no point explaining. Kinda like the saying about the guy who knows the price of everything and the value of nothing.

OK, I just joined this forum and I have searched everywhere, but can't find what SOB means. In my business as an ER doctor, it means "shortness of breath" or the more familiar "son of a .....". Can someone enlighten me? Many thanks.

The best was my older daughter: Dad! This is the weirdest! thing you have ever done! We had stopped by to see her at school (UF) on our way home from picking it up. Our younger daughter said "you don't think I am going with you in that thing? Mom loves it. Friends and siblings just roll their eyes and say what now? We love it though.

Grandma was thrilled, we bought a 79 Ambassador in 2002, it was sweet, and still in 70s decor, she just loved it!! Folks had an Airstream so they understood.
Some relatives were like "its cheaper to stay in a motel" but you know since they are elders we don't argue, I just nodded and said oh yes, um hum, and changed the subject its always safe to talk about the weather with some folks...

About every third time we fuel up we give someone a tour . One time over the intercom came " will the Airstream please pull over to the side so people can look at it" . All 6 people blocking the pumps were in the AS, it was like a chain reaction. And it's not even polished!

People at work: can you bring your trailer to the float trip? ...NOT! and it's not a trailer.
Family:What are you going to tow that with?...IT's A MOTORHOME...you drive it!
Friends:"That ok, if you want an old camper." Their 2005 $100,000 MH has been to the shop nearly every time they've taken it on a trip. I'll keep my easy to work on, by myself 25+ year old "camper".
Parents: Wish they had one instead of their 18' SOB. I've been keeping my eye out for them. They always say they won't be able to afford one...both retired. I tell them, how od you think all the other AS people afford them, they didn't steal them, some bought new, some bought used and fixed them up.

We got our 16' Bambi Quiksilver in September.

Friends said a combination of "looks like fun" and "come visit us in it".
Parents said mostly "great you can come with us" and a very little bit of "wish you got a MoHo" (Dad is a FMCA local chapter president)

Campground opinions were the most interesting (and surprising)

50% - Can I look in it...it sure is cute (and small).
40% - Above...plus amazed that 4 people fit in it.
10% - Above...plus 'you could have bought a 40' 5th wheel for what that cost'
.........(with me saying...yeah, but we don't really need anything that big)
.........(and thinking.......yeah, but then I'd be stuck with a 40' SOB 5th wheel)

Most heartwarming and heartwrenching was a young couple newly married with children who talked fondly about the 1970s Airstream that had been part of their lives when they were single. It was obvious they missed her greatly.

Welcome to the Forums. You will soon catch on to the lingo around here. If not, you can always ask. As you have found out, sometimes you get two different answers, but you will get an answer!
