Well, since you asked, it was 40 here last night. Usually the temps here hang around the low 60's at night, and high 70's day.

A new employee from Lockport, New York, scoffed at the forecast low temp. When I observed him this morning, he had a heavy coat, gloves, and knit hat on-maybe 40 is colder here than 40 in other parts of the country...

It is 45 degrees and overcast here in Vancouver. I am getting anxious to get back to work replacing the skin on my '61 Overlander.I'm passing the hours planning the new electrics. Hoping for an early spring.

It is still snowing here!!!! And this will be the third time I have had to get up on a ladder and clear the snow - off - not worried about the weight - but it is the melting underneath that has a way of making it's way in (when it is above freezing - which yeah we are headed for soon)

And yet another trajectory - brrrr she looks cold - wish I had a big heated garage.....

Not cold enough

With mid 60's-70's for daytime highs, l look with longing at winter weather... till I saw the icicles , so think we'll stick around here till they melt .

Here's winter at San Elijo St beach in San Diego County where it dropped to 40's at night and we actually needed a sweater!

Happy Holidays

***Snow, Snow, and more Snow**

The Winter storm hit last night - - freezing rain and sleet for almost two hours and then the snow began. This morning at 7:00 a.m. we had nearly 9 inches with snow still falling at a rate of just more than one-inch per hour. This wouldn't be much of a storm up North around the Quad Cities, but here in far Southern Illinois almost everything is shut down including a few of our highways. We have been told that the heavy band of snow will continue for about one or two more hours followed by a two to three hour break then another two to four hours of heavy snow. The two photos below are of what we saw from our front door looking out on the main county highway that takes us to the Super Wal Mart about 1/4 mile up the road.

The scene is similar from Mt. Vernon, IL to Sikeston, MO; and from near Poplar Bluff, MO to near Murray, KY. The advisories that we have been hearing indicate that Interstate 57 has scattered slippery spots starting from somewhere in the vicinity of Effingham with near total snow and ice coverage starting near Mt. Vernon continuing the balance of the length of the highway to near Sikestaon, MO.

Look snow in the Winter - who would have ever thought

I guess this is par for the course - we had a very wet summer and now we are having a very wet winter - which = snow. The only problem with this much snow our way - is that it is insulating the lakes and they are very unsafe! We keep our fingers crossed for all those Merry People out there that think skating on the lake would be a good idea - carols around a bon-fire on land might be a better bet this Holiday.

I tested our little Marsh after that -31 ordeal and ended upwith a soaker up to my knees!!!! Girls are weighting waiting that is...(gees think I have weight on the brain! or I'm just a poopy speller tee hee!) for their Marsh walks! Me too.

Kevin, the weathermen teased us with hints of snow to come last night, but our world this morning and all day today has been dull winter brown and Oh! so cold!! No snow day and no white Christmas for central Missouri I think the storm stayed south of I44 this time, perfect for catching you! Enjoy your white Christmas-when you get plowed out!

We will certainly be having a white Christmas this year. We have over 10" on the ground since this time last night (December 22), and expect to add another close to 10" to that amount by this time tomorrow (December 23). Once it stops snowing it sounds like the deep-freeze will be back with below zero over-night temperatures for the weekend. The following has been broadcast by the National Weather Service in our area with ever increasing frquency this evening:

Quote:
Significant heavy snow will continue to affect southeast Missouri... Southern Illinois... Southwest Indiana... And much of western Kentucky tonight. Look for an additional 4 to 10 inches of snow... On top of what fell during the day. The highest snowfall totals are forecast along a line from Johnson County in southern Illinois... To Evansville and pike county Indiana. Amounts will be slightly less to the north and south of that line.

This will result in total storm snowfall accumulations ranging from a low end of 6 inches to a high end of 22 inches. However... The average total storm snowfall accumulation for most locales will be in the 8 to 14 inch range.

In addition... Strong and gusty winds in the 15 to 30 mph range will combine with the wintery weather to produce near blizzard conditions tonight. Wind chills of zero to 10 below zero are expected across the entire region.

Any travel is strongly discouraged. If you leave the safety of being indoors... You are putting your life at risk.
I am just a few miles from the Johnson County line, so we are expecting to be in the region for the heaviest accumulation. The talk is that this is going to be the biggest storm since the Blizzard of 1979 - - I am hoping that it doesn't get that bad - - if it does, the Blazer that can be seen in the photo that I posted this morning would be completely covered by a 9' snow drift.

At this point I am not anticipating getting out of the house much until Wednesday of next week. We are supposed to be above freezing starting Monday afternoon so I am hoping for quick, significant melting - - by Wednesday, the forecasters are talking about 50 degree highs.

Kevin

It was 17 degrees F here in Central Texas at 5 AM down from 78 only two days ago. Tommorrow is forcast to be the really cold day. Just twenty miles to the north, we received 3-4 inches of snow, but it remains clear here. I've spent the last two days getting pipes wrapped, heat lamps and portable heaters turned on in the various well houses and the green houses. I put extra hay out to all of our cattle and horses. Whatever the day brings weatherwise, we'll still have to get out to feed and check on our cattle.
