Just returned from FW on the 16th, HOTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTT like every year, don't know how many years you been camping there but, my first was 1973. Stopped camping in there in 88, retuned last year for the first time in the camp ground. It was much nicer in the beginning, lots of vegitation and you couldn't see you neighbor if you didn't want to. No golf carts back then, all walking and you rode trams right up to when all the memorial bricks are now at magic kingdom. Fourths was always our favorite time but its just gotten too hot, at least we're getting older. Anyway enough babling. Have a great time, gas on property was $3.99/reg. From Gainsville to the gate $405 ++++++.
Our first trip to Ft. Wilderness was July 4th week in '06 just our third camping trip after getting our '06 Safari over Memorial Day Weekend that year. We have spent each of the July 4th weeks since. Including this past week, we have stayed at Ft. Wilderness nine times since we bought the Airstream just over two years ago! This has seriously enhanced our Mickey time.

We watched the 4th of July fireworks from the beach at the Polynesian Resort and had a perfect view. No body does fireworks like Disney. They were spectacular. There was a family from the UK next to us and even they were moved by the show.

I have a diesel and the some of the cheapest fuel I bought on the trip was at the Hess station at the express station at the Magic Kingdom Parking lot entrance ($4.67/gallon vs. $4.62/gallon @ Flying J just over the Georgia State line, most FL stations were $4.69 or more)--go figure.

Heat and humidity weren't too bad (but then again we're from Georgia). Rain held off 'till our planned departure from the parks most days anyway so we were on the buses back to the Fort mot times.

Sadly, the AS had to stay home this holiday....we opted to taking our boat out in the Northern Calif Delta area to watch the Fireworks display hosted by Baron Hilton's family out on the river.

The Hilton (Hotel Hilton's) Family has a private Duck Hunting Club on an island right on the San Joaquin River where they bring in a barge full of Fireworks for all to view. They always invite a number of VIP's out to the club for the holiday...It's estimated there are up to 3000 boats in the immediate area to join in the festivities...

We have an old Marine Trader Trawler that we like to take out there and tie up to a levee for a couple of days so we can watch the 'zoo' of small boaters milling around...these days, there are lots of ski boats with multiple speakers trying to outdo each other...kind of ruins the mood, some what...but to each his own...

The Coast Guard and county Sheriff boats have a large presents these days...with their flashing lites, doing their 'thing' to impress everyone with their 'importance' in the name of 'river safety'...a big 'overkill' out there, IMHO!

I've been doing this for 40 some years, and I can remember the days, where there were still lots of boats, and we could all get along just fine without so much 'help' from the 'floating authorities'...Big Brother just can't help and try to protect us from ourselves, I guess...the 'Old' days were truly better...

We still had fun with our friends and family on our 'Mother Ship' as they came and went on the River, and the Hilton Fireworks exploding over our heads were spectacular!!!

Well, you know, I like the way Jimmy Buffett puts it:

"INDEPENDENCE DAY AND ALL I REMEMBER
WAS A MIDNIGHT RAINBOW THAT FELL FROM THE SKY
AS I STAND ON THE BEACH I SLOWLY SURRENDER
TO THE CHILD IN ME WHO CAN'T SAY GOOD-BYE

THE ROCKETS IN THE AIR
AND THE PEOPLE EVERYWHERE
PUT AWAY THEIR DIFFERENCES FOR AWHILE
OH I AM STILL A CHILD WHEN IT COMES TO SOMETHING WILD
THAT WAS THE NIGHT I PAINTED THE SKY ..."

While his main claim to fame is party music, I will always contend that he is one of the great story tellers of our time.
