Video-wise, it's shot really well - they must have a pretty impressive budget. I enjoy seeing them trash old beat-up clunkers.
It's tough to imagine a prime-time car show here...well, we'll see how the US version of Top Gear works out.
Back to the original topic - Prius replacement batteries are now around $2500, depending on the generation. Not cheap, but not $4000 (even Canadian.) They also have an 80k-100k warranty, depending on the laws of your state (longer coverage in states with Calif. emissions.)

longdog, if you want to speed up the Smart process, ask the dealer to put your name on the "orphan" list. If someone reserves a car and then declines it, the dealer sells it to someone on the list. It can speed up the process immensely. Smart dealers are also strongly encouraged to stick to MSRP - but they get around it by adding accessories with a big dealer profit, like Lojack, to the orphans.
Having driven a Smart about 1000 miles, I'd buy a Mini Cooper with a stick instead - or convert that old Benz to run on veggie oil and grease....

Trust me when I say work will have ZERO issue with me charging a car. I use the car for work, so they pay mileage and will pay for charging too should I go the Volt route.

Well if we're going by Top Gear (which my wife son and I love to watch every Monday night) Diesels are uncool and therefore should not be considered.
End of Discussion.

Problem With TOPGEAR is it's a year behind over here.. I down load it and watch without commercials.. It's really an 1hr show without commercials so the US cut 15 min. out of each show...
They did make that Diesel race car and raced for 24 hrs.... Sorry off topic...

He did take the diesel Jag around the Nurburgring in 10 minutes flat.
Which, of course, led to the very impressive Sabine Schmitz hauling around in a . That was impressive!
They also had some Audi's and Beemers at the ride & drive, so it isn't entirely off topic
I didn't drive those as there was a line, and they aren't my thing.

When I wear out my current work car (Crown Victoria) in about 300,000 more miles. I'll probably switch to a diesel.
My employer pays for %100 percent of all myfuel so it's not a cost issue. I just love a durable car and by then they won't be making Crown Vics anymore.

My Opinion.
Hi, you young'uns out there buy up all those new Diesel, electric, and Hybrid vehicles; Our economy needs a boost from you. Mean-while I'll keep my, paid for, gas guzzleing, Airstream towing Lincoln. The way I see it, the only way it would be feasable to buy a new vehicle is when the one you own now will no longer serve it's purpose or can no longer be cost efficient to keep on the road.

the vic is no longer available to the public, however it is available as a fleet vehicle so taxis, cops, etc. can still get them. I do not know for how long though.

TMI on the Vic
You can still get all the Vics you want. Just talk to the Fleet Manager. That includes the P71 (police Interceptor) or any other varient. There is talk about the Vic going out of production in 2012.
the problem is that Police Depts. keep ordering them as the front wheel drive competition has higher operating and repair costs and don't last as long. Many PD's who went to the front wheel drives are going back to the Vics.
Now if they come out with a diesel Vic. I'll be the first in line for a P74 Model.

We still see the Vics towing TT's around these parts. A few years ago there was one camped beside us. It was towing a 30' Award. The other was a newer Vic towing a 34' Bullet(with the orange connection).

Speaking of Mileage
My 2008 Diesel 2500 Silverado quad cab long bed - is getting 19.5 mpg. This is up from the 2003 Suburban 2500 gasser's 12.5 NOT towing!
It isn't a "sipper" but it's a helluva lot better and torque! OMG.

Uh...what's the difference between an "sd" card and a "SIM" card? The last, I don't know, three or four phones I have bought had them and I just took the card out and put in the new one and that was all there was to getting a new phone. Well, just about.

My 2001 Jetta TDI has 123,000 miles, and always gets over 42mpg, and up to about 50 on long trips. I haven't quite tamed my right foot...
