Mimi that sounds right.

I currently just know the one stitch so that was the one I practiced, over and over again.

And you are correct I started to feel the stitch and could tell when it didn't feel right. Was able to look away a bit and relax my arms as it it went along.

Will likely look for a class as the books only go so far, when you don't understand the shorthand they're written in but I think I will enjoy it.

Freshman year in college a boyfriend's mom taught me to knit. She also insisted that I learn how to read the pattern shorthand. In addition, she taught me how to pick up dropped stitches and fix mistakes with a crochet hook. A good lady and a good teacher.

I think Maggie's doing the same thing with crochet, because she knows what you did just by looking at your pictures. It's really all about looking at the finished product and knowing how it got there.

Knitting really has only two stitches, and each is actually the other one inside out.

So I've started another piece after pulling out my wobbly practice piece.

Going under both strands of the V instead of just the forward strand. Also watching for the end stitch and making sure I crochet a turning chain before heading down the next row.

Resulting in a smoother flatter piece with straighter sides.

Very good way to spend tv time during football games. I'm there and still participating but not watching every play. Also will be less time on forums. During football I can get my "unread" threads down to zero. 😮

So moving along with my crocheting endeavours. This sure is a good craft for my patience building.

Feel comfortable enough with the large scarf to keep it. No more, or considerably less wobbly edges.

Also have two started for the grands in contrasting colors.

Need to figure out what to do with the little strings on the sides.

Knot and sew/thread thru the work I think.

Looks very good.

Tie a square knot in those ends, make three tight knots, weave in your ends.

Thanks so much Maggie. Will give that a try. Do people still do fringe on the ends of the scarves or is that passe or dated.

Some do fringe, but I don't, as it is more labor intensive than the crocheting part.

Stopped at a local yarn shop that had Thursday as a late night. Warm eclectic group of welcoming ladies sitting around a communal table knitting and crocheting. They were very encouraging.

Got some additional pointers for the future and their take on finishing the side strings. They choose not to knot and just weave thru with a nice aluminum tapestry needle.

I'm blending the advice and choosing one square knot then weaving thru. These scarves will likely end up in a washer and I don't want to come undone.

Stayed up later than usual and finished the little scarfs for the little ones. Might be the last chance before Christmas.

I'm enjoying it and will likely take a class in the new year before to many bad habits get firmly rooted.

Great way to end one year and start the next.

New Year's rally with 4CU at Picacho Peak AZ. Close to home this rally is in its 10th year. 40ish Airstreams a small state park in a dry loop with 4 nice ramadas.

Great food, libations evening fire and visiting. The rain can't keep this group down.
