If you want or need it, pm me your email address, I can send you the pdf document with directions for DO bread that I worked up.

I am enjoying your photos.

Could you post those directions on the Cast Iron . . . Fire Cooking thread maybe? I looked there but don't see them, although I have not read all the posts. See below for your general post about using briquettes. Is your DO bread a no-knead variety?

Thanks,

Peter

PS -- The Dutch Oven thread has lots of discussion also, but none about using briquettes [from what I can see before the edit time window closes].

http://www.airforums.com/forums/f484...ing-40090.html

I guess the no-knead recipe from Martha Stewart works for the DO bread? I am actually aiming for a gluten-free bread for a family member who also likes to tent camp.

Charcoal briquettes are just more evenly sized, so therefore more even heat.

If you are simply cooking something, wood fire coals will do fine.....beans, chili, bacon or sausage, etc.

I got into using a DO for baking, as there is no oven in the Interstate.

Baking is what I use mine for, most of the time, and charcoal is simply easier and gives more predictable results.

Peter the recipe I'm currently using is a no knead artisan bread recipe Maggie posted and it does contain gluten. I guessed and researched a bit on briquettes because Maggie does hers in the oven.

There is a no knead artisan bread recipe I saw on the Bob's Red Mill flour bag this weekend without gluten. (But also goes in oven).

I am going to take Maggie up on her document and wander over to the DO cooking thread also. Thx

I do mine both in the traditional oven and in the DO with briquettes, and have directions for both in a pdf document....that I am unable to post.

If you pm me your email address, I will send it to you.

Maggie,
I may have missed it in a previous post, what size Dutch Oven do you use? My husband will only use Kingsford charcoal. He is at the big Houston Rodeo Cookoff right now and doing a recipe we have been finessing for a couple of weeks. Won't find out the results until Saturday. We really enjoy using our several DOs for all kinds of dishes. I hope to take some on the road when we finally get the perfect AS. I will try to find your recipe and I enjoy reading about your travels with that sweet companion of yours. Travel on!

Have meandered out to Monterey Bay CA for a family function. Sans Airstream again ;(

But finally had the time to check out two potential parks if we bring a trailer in the future.

Drove thru Marina Dunes right off freeway south end of Monterey Bay. Nice, shaded, bit snug, walk thru Dunes to Beach, freeway noise but a definite possibility.

Drove up to Laguna Seca campgrounds off highway 68 between Monterey and Salinas. Nice location, steep short grade to get to campgrounds, some shaded spots, beautiful views of surrounding hills and racetrack, some track noise if they are running that day.

Both good choices for future stays.

Monterey Bay is such a beautiful area.

Picture perfect, everywhere you look.

We drove thru there a number of years ago, wanted to see it, but have not been back.

Oooo....that sounds appealing!

I haven't decided yet where I am going to go when I leave Oregon in mid September.

Perhaps a meander down the coast...
