Missed the rally this weekend. Really wanted to be there being a relatively new member. Looking at DeAnza to connect with the group. Glad it was a good time at LoLoMai!

Rick, we are going to try for the April DeAnza gathering also. It's a new Rally for 4CU but likely be the same old thing.

Friendly people, good pot luck, bright fire and casual hanging out.

Look forward to meeting you.

In the desert, Kartchner Caverns AZ. Beautiful, breezy, 70 at night with a partially covered moon. With us there are 5 Airstreams here and that's just in the west loop. Have to walk around and day hi tomorrow.

Took two tours at Kartchner Caverns State Park. The wonders of this world always astound.

What a nice campground with spotless restrooms.

Me several of the Airstreamer's, a lovely couple from Washington, orchard owners, in a 68 GT. Also met a nice couple from Oregon, owners of Ana Reservoir Campgrounds. They also had a set of Kermit chairs they let us try out. Quite comfortable for a quick sit and very lovely to look at.

We have been admiring the chairs after reading about them on the Chair Mulling thread and checking them out online.

Moving on to Organ Pipe NM.

Yes Maggie, it does look familiar, its your recipe and it seemed it liked it's "rest".

Made it up yesterday morning then drove all day with it. It rose well, doubled, but was a bit pasty this morning so I was concerned it didn't like the drive, the bumps and the elevation changes.

Baked it up this morning and gave it some extra coals and time.

Looks, feels and smells good. Just about ready to have it for dinner.

It looks nice and porous, just like it should.

One suggestion....more coals on top, should be more browned.

I suspect you have a deep DO...I have a regular, and have to watch carefully to make sure my breads don't burn.

OK Maggie, will try to get it a little browner up top.

Bread was good tonight.

Nice inside, good top crust but light colored. A little firm on the bottom crust almost like a sourdough.

Currently doing 14 on top and 6 on bottom but finding it needs a second round of coals and still working on our timing of when to start the second set of coals.

When across the aisle and offered some to fellow Airstreamers that were from Casa Grande AZ and doing their maiden voyage.

We don't have a dog so we offer bread.

Hmmm.....those don't seem to be nearly enough coals, honey.

I use 45 briquettes, 33 on top, 12 on the bottom, allowing them to finish in place, on and beneath the DO, to preheat....replicating the 450 degree oven at home. 40 minutes baking time should then do it, most days.

It is a lot of charcoal, but Doug & I worked that number out through a half dozen or so loaves while on the road in early 2014 , and that's what gave us results that most closely approximated our home oven.

Glad it was tasty. .

This bread makes great toast, too.

This stage of adventure comes to an end as we headed home this morning.

Maggie that sounds like a good plan, we'll try more coals. The coals were a guess after looking at some other bread recipes.

Organ Pipe is highly recommended, peaceful and quiet but a bit out there in terms of distance. The parking pads were concrete and mostly very level with picnic tables and BBQ grills.

Only momentary disappointment was the camp shower. Sign said "solar showers can scald be careful". Pushed the button for Navy shower but no warm water ever came out. OK it could be that we showered at night All good, a nice shower always feels great while camping but I was mentally prepared for warm.

Back to work.
