Yesterday, 18th of March, 2007, while I was looking outside my upstairs bathroom window...My house was struck by a meterorite. I just wanted to share this news with my fellow airstreamforums members..(Ya heard it first) Briefly... At 10:25 am, while I was looking out the bathroom window, I saw & heard this small object hit the back side of my house's copper roof. My first reaction was..What the heck was that? (Since I live in the country with no close neighboors..) I went downstairs and, put on my boots. Walked around the house, breaking thru the ice crusted snow to the spot where it has come to rest after bouncing off the roof. It was easy to spot because the entire yard was white except for this one small dark spot. I am attaching a photo of the meterorite for you. ciao 53FC
Wow, what a trip. I wonder if it is indeed a meteorite or a shmolzed piece of space junk. I hear that there is tons of junk floating around in space, for one reason or another.
Your meteorite might be a melted booster rocket from a space project....
Glad it didn't hit the Airstream. Better watch out that might be a reconnisance bugging device in disguise and the next thing you know they will be beaming you up and making you polish their aircraft!

I tend to believe it is a meteorite, judging by the looks of it. Did it cause any permanent damage to the roof? What is the size of this reject from space?
Many years ago, a friend and I were out fishing in his inflatable Sevelor boat. We were way out in the middle of Lee Valley Lake, a high mountain lake when we heard this whistling, hissing sound getting louder. Then it hit and not three feet from the boat. We were too far from shore for it to be a thrown object. Judging from the sound and size of splash, it must have been 3 to 4 inches around. That will sure make one ponder your days.
Gee, someone might want to cross check with the Russians....Maybe they were passing by overhead in their Space Station and decided to jettison the icky stuff from their "Inter-Galactic Space Loo".....
Let it thaw a bit and see if it takes on an odor after a few hours....

Seriously tho...that is so weird.... lucky it wasn't a huge piece...as it could have gone right through your roof.... or worse.....hit your "'stream".....

That was exactly the very first thought that came to my mind when I saw it laying there..FROZEN BIRD POOP...
It's about the size of a child's marble but, burned half way thru..

I want to report that, at 1025 am, on the 18th of March, 2007, of an impact on the roof of my house by a small meteorite.
This is what happened..
I was looking out my bathroom window on this morning and, suddenly, I saw a small dark object hit the copper roof and bounce off from that point of my roof into the backyard. I was able to walk out into the ice covered yard moments later and found this pebble size object laying on top of the thick crust of ice.
It shows severe burned marks from the entry ??..Would you know of anyone who might be interested in looking at this object??
I must tell you that, if I hadn't seen it with my own eyes, I would have never known of this strike. Except for the noise it made at the same time..This made me curious as to what the heck it was that hit the house..I will keep it set aside in the event you or someone you know would like to contact me abt it..

Is it magnetic? Is it very heavy for it's size? How big is it? If it's magnetic and heavy, it's probably a nickel or iron meteorite. If not metal, but stone, it's almost certainly a meteorite.
Most universities these days have an astronomy Professor. Maybe he/she could take a look at it for you and give a few ideas.
Me, I would slice it half, polish it, a keep it. Some of them are beautiful when polished, depending on the mineral content. Some are also quite valuable. Good thing it didn’t go all the way thru the roof! Let us know what you find out about it.

The Chinese recently destroyed a "weather satillite" during their first anti-sat weapon test AND the Russians just had a year-old failed booster explode - both really polluted low earth orbits the shuttle and space station uses with debris. The other major powers suspended such tests many years ago since every piece of debris produced needs to be perpetually tracked and monitored if one wants to stay out of harms way. I wonder if the piece you recovered is from either of those incidents....

I am no expert on these matters..But, it looks to be made up of a rocky material..I will post another picture of it after I get them re-sized. (pixel-wise)..I have heard of those events..(We (meaning the USA) were the first to do it using an F-15 jet..I was quite familiar with the satellite that was blown apart in space..It's debries field still plague the US Space program..)
