Has anybody camped at the Bonnaroo festival?

My son and his girlfreind are taking my airstream to the Bonnaroo festival.
I have been researching the wait to get into the camping area. I have read it could be at least 6.5 hours of a traffic jam. I am thinking at booking a couple of nights at a state park about 50 miles away and having my son camp the night before.

I would very much appreciate any information that might help him have a good airstream camping experience at a fun festival. Are there any other airstreamers going to this festival?

The trip/traffic/mess/chaos is part of the experience. Even sitting in the jam affords an opportunity to meet new interesting people (and trailers). Wouldn't worry too much, heck at least they'll have a shower/bath/bed. Most people go to Roo happily and willingly expecting nothing adequate in this regard and have a blast!

I have read the Wal-mart in Manchester becomes packed with party people the night before the festival. I heard last year many police were there hasseling the young people. That is to crazy and who knows what could happen with a bunch of young folks partying and getting crazy.

There is a K-mart 14 miles off the highway near the festival. I read that K-mart will let you spend the night. I will call them to see what there policy is going to be.

I am going to have my son pull the trailer but I am going to ride with him up there. My wife will follow us in the car. I want him to get the training and experience of pulling the trailer.

He is going to do a couple of camping weekends near home to get used to the trailer and how to work all the trailer systems. I think it will be a good experience for him.

I have looked at the bonnaroo pictures and it looks like woodstock.

Thousands of campers.

We're going to Bonnaroo this year. I've purchased a RV pass, but I'm not sure if I'm bringing the Overlander. We may just camp in tents (and I have a near by hotel room). It will be me, 3 teenage boys(16, 18, 19) and 2 of our daughters (26 & 29).

I have a few of questions:

Can you put up tents next to the RV?

I read that they refill water tanks & empty holding tanks, but not sure if they can empty portable (blue boys) holding tanks. Does anyone know?

Can you have a generator outside of the RV?

Thanks,

Festival Attendees

We think that Doug and Bin Bin, DB2, or DBsquared from Reno, have attended Bonnaroo with their Bambi.

You might want to PM them and ask about their experience.

We lived in Tennessee and still have a home there, but never got the chance to attended.

We're definitely envious. Best wishes for a great time!

If you type in Bonaroo 2010 and camping in your search engine it will take you to the Bonaroo Website. You are not allowed to have tents by the RV's. They have tent areas and RV areas. The RV's can have a generator and there is no rule on when or how long you run them.

My son with the people he will go to Bonaroo with went camping in a local state park. They had a blast and loved the airsteam. I am bringing new airstreamers in to the group. My son started talking to me about renovating one for him.

Brian,

Thanks for the reply. I'm not sure we will bring the Overlander if we cannot have tents next to it. Six adults in the Overlander would be very crowded, but not impossible. We may split between the RV area & the tent area, just not sure.

We're in the middle of a renovation of a '63 Globetrotter. We're doing this so our sons, now 16 & 18, and our middle daughter, 29 ( who loves to camp, etc) can have an Airstream of their own to use.

Maybe this time next year it will be ready to go to Bonnaroo.

Thanks again,

Brian,

I received an email back from the nice folks at Bonnaroo. They said that I can set up a tent next to my RV, as long as it fits in my "space", which is 50'x20'. So, my plan is the Overlander with a generator, and a tent.

Just look for a 73 Overlander with a dent in the back and you will see mine. My son will be with his girlfriend and a friend. He will have a generator also. I just got back boondocking for a week and my airconditoner broke. I have to try to fix it in the next couple of days. It keeps kicking out the generator.
