Happy Easter!

Happy Easter to all you Airstreamers and Argosy Owners out there on planet earth.

We are heading for the weekend and are looking forward to the big easter fires burning on Saturday and Sunday. They are a great chance to meet old and new friends and having a beer or two... or three or four...

Are these fires as common in the US, as they are over here?? We have about 70 burning just around our small city...

Best wishes and a happy search for the easter eggs.

Steffi and Bjoern

never heard of an "easter fire" here in wisconsin, and we have plenty of german immigrants.

could you explain more?

i can't think of a bad reason for a bonfire! maybe it is time for a new tradition!

There's a bonfire gene that must run through Max's family-always about Easter time, but I really think it has to do with rural traditions, burning off the fields to "get ridi of ticks" and to encourage new growth. Once I thought Max was going to burn down our neighborhood when he just had to do the spring burn thing, but we were in town! Just last week, our second oldest son who has a small country property decided to do the spring burn thing and had it get out of hand-pretty predictable. I think he had the scare of his life before he, his wife, and a passing motorist got it out-burned several acres, right up the side of the pond bank-a good place for it to run to! Yes, I'm familiar with spring fires, just never heard them called Easter fires before.

I set fire to my ditch. Does that count? Would it count if I drank a beer? Happy Easter to you all!

Post No Easter Fires Here

Wow! Easter bon fires sound really neat. Do you happen to know how this got started? I'll ask my Mother In Law on Sunday if her town held Easter bon fires, she grew up in Fussen and my husband was born in Garmisch .

Germany is such a beautiful country and the folks are so kind. I hope we will be able to visit it again in the near future.

Good luck finding an Airstream! I assume it's a bit harder to locate one in Europe but I promise you it's worth the search.

Frohe Ostern!

I had not heard of the bon fire celebrations in Deutschland, but they sound wonderful! Is it like spring cleaning, whereby you get rid of household stuff? I'm all for that! Just don't throw away any useable Airstream paraphernalia...

Well it sounds like a great tradition but please, not here in Southern California where they don't put 'em out!

Dan's parents were German, his mom was born there but never mentioned that tradition. Sure wish they were both here to ask though!

Happy Easter and good luck finding the Airstream of your dreams

Never heard of an Easter fire either, here in Michigan.
Although the city of Detroit used to celebrate the night before Halloween with lots of fires!

Hey I'm taking the Airstream to the beach today. Well I'll have a fire and a beer or two, so I guess I am celebrating Easter in the German way tonight. Yipee!

Easter Fires

There's an Easter Fires pageant in Fredricksburg, Texas, commemorating a time long ago when the Indians and White Man were trying to come to terms with living beside each other. As the peace treaty discussions were being held, the tribes were in the hills surrounding the town of Fredricksburg with their bonfires. The legend is that the children of the German settlers were fearful of the fires so their mothers made up the story that the Easter bunny was making the fire to heat his kettle for coloring eggs for Easter.

Jim's family is from Hamburg and he spent many vacations across the pond with his family there, but he has no recollection of bonfires on Easter. And to reiterate what others have and fire? what could be better?!
