Guns - take them or not?

I am interested to know how many Airstreamers carry a gun for security while travelling in their units ? Long gun or pistol?

You bet! Wouldn't leave home without one!

I believe everyone should 'carry' - that way the bad guys might think twice before trying to strong arm another - I think I read where the crime rate went down in Florida when it was easier for the masses to 'carry'...

Lock and load, my friends...

How about if I just tell everyone I carry, and maybe put an NRA sticker in the window? Will that work just as well

I would'nt tell anybody but the NRA sticker might work as a deterrent.

If you're going to have a weapon in your rig make certain you get some training. Few things are more dangerous than a nimrod with a handgun.

Many years ago the same question was debated in Cruising World magazine - should people on extended cruises carry guns in their sailboats for protection? The debate raged hot and heavy for many months, with arguments and real-life examples both for and against. Even after all these years I still remember the comment from a retired U.S. Navy officer that summed it up for me. His take on the issue was this:

Whether to carry a gun or not is a personal choice. Unlike in the movies, in real life a gun is not a magic wand that you wave around to make someone do what you want. If you choose to carry a gun, there should only be a fraction of a second between the time you put your hand on the gun and the time someone is dead. If you cannot do that, don't carry a gun.

Even after all these years I still recall his response whenever the "pack or don't pack debate arises. I think it is very succinct and to-the-point - and very thought provoking.
