Not necessarily, many states have reciprocity for other states' permits. There is a click-able map and discussion here: Concealed Carry Permit Reciprocity Maps.
After clicking on several states, I was unable to locate any that either California or New York accept, even states that accept theirs. Worth researching their laws if planning to travel there.
I'm not advocating carrying or not. It's a personal decision with many ramifications. Just providing the info. By the way, North Carolina's is widely accepted.
I also think that the big stick is a good idea. I've needed to poke or pry a lot more things than I've needed to shoot. The stick is a much better multitasker.

Just curious...I have not posted for a while...but this was first on the list.
How many of you who carry a gun have EVER had to use it. And truly and honestly how many of you are travelling in that much fear that you must carry a gun?
PS when you travel to Canada - leave your guns at home!!!
Happy shooting everyone.... I'm a female who travels alone for 1000's of miles and never ever felt the need to carry a gun - what will be will be! If you have that much fear of life why put yourself out there in the BIG BAD WORLD!!!

We keep a .38 next to the bed (unless we're headed into Canada, in which case it stays home). It's not my first choice, however; fire extinguisher or wasp (or bear) spray is probably more effective in close quarters. Firing off a few rounds inside a tin can will not only deafen you but will also deaden any further reactions on your part. There's a very good reason we wear ear protectors on the range, and that's in a fairly-open space.

If I remember correctly there is a Federal provision for carrying a gun through any state during travel. I don't remember exactly where to find the precise wording from it, and I'm not sure how it applies to travel trailers, but I don't think any state can legally prevent you from traveling through it with a gun.

Being prepared is not necessarily being fearful.
If people waited until after they NEEDED a gun to start carrying, well, they're probably no longer with us...

Some of you are talking about concealed handguns, which are very regulated in many states, but I don't believe there is any law preventing one from keeping a shotgun or rifle in a trailer or crossing a state line with it if properly carried. It is not a "concealed" weapon if it is in the trailer. In most places I would probably feel safe without one, but I have camped in remote areas and would definately feel unsafe without one. My rule is this, if I have a reason to have one in my house, I will have one in my trailer when camping.

Sure some cites and municipalities have exception ordinances. As for crossing state lines, a South Carolina resident CC Permit has reciprocity in the nearly half the US states. In turn South Carolina has reciprocity with 17 states whereby CC Permit holders from those states may CC in South Carolina as long as they abide by state CC restrictions. Other states differ of course but the "Can't Cross State Lines Isn't Allowed" issue simply isn't correct in all cases.

This comment is inaccurate. The author is writing it without having researched the facts. It would have been much more accurate if they had said "international borders" instead of merely "state lines".

Another incorrect statement. Many states have reciprocal agreements.

"travelling in that much fear?" What does fear have to do with anything?
"leave your guns at home?" A lot of good that will do... unless you need one and happen to be at home. Whether I'm in the 'Stream, in a tent or in the house, I'm very much at home.
How many have actually "needed one?" When you find yourself needing one, you'd better have one.
The NRA sticker will only deter those who actually SEE the NRA sticker. Some who see the sticker have no actual fear of stickers.

Just a note to remind everyone not to get too far off topic into the 'gun vs no gun' debate. We all have our own opinions on if we need a gun or not, folks are unlikely to change their minds from one side to the other, and that direction tends to lead to threads getting closed.
However people are welcome to discuss laws, crossing state lines, stuff like that. That way we can all live happily together and keep the thread open

I am packing...
But when I lived in the UK where nobody does.... and anything that is not considered something "Normal" to have in the car(ie, a baseball Bat) would land you in Jail.
I carried a LARGE wire Brush... it was rusty and ugly...
For cleaning spark plugs Officer....
I showed it to bad people 5 times, and used it once... I hit the guy with it twice and he will never forget it...
Ripped the skin right off his nose and lips...
Now I am older and calmer... but the sight of him bleeding and weeping fluid still makes me wince!

We each carry Glock 26's, and a Glock 19 in the tow vehicle. We carry them with us everywhere.

Always, everywhere when traveling and at home. Trained, armed and ready!

What kind of environment do people live in that they feel the need to carry a firearm? - and perhaps more to the point of this thread - where do people go that they feel the need to carry a firearm?
I can only guess that their travels must not include typical campground or park environment where security is provided - and where firearms would normally be prohibited.
One previous poster talked about the need to show a weapon (not a firearm) on 5 different occasions - and use it once. This kind of bizarre (to me) statement generates a whole list of other questions - most of which have nothing to do with fellow campers.
Thanks,
Jay
