Got gas?

Hi, we are trying to get out of town and I have been working on my trailer, trying to make it ready for a possible long trip. I decided that to do this, I need to carry some spare gas. Gas for my Yamaha 2400, and hopefully, not for the Lincoln. We have run really low on gas a few times before and it gets a little nerve racking. Well after quite a bit of thought, I decided what kind of gas can to buy and where I was going to mount it. I'm sure it might raise a few eye brows, ruffle a few feathers, But without a pick-up truck, this seemed like the best place to carry some extra gas. I feel that it is reasonably safe, but I'm sure other's will think I'm crazy. They might be right, but I have seen crazier things done with RVs before. One of my favorite quotes is: "You may not like what I have to tell you, but it is the truth." Stating that; I'm here to hear/read what ever comments anyone out there in Airstream-land has to say, good or bad.

Seems reasonable to me. I just replaced my Blitz Can with a new shiny one like yours and I gotta tell you...I HATE that anti-spill system they have "adopted". I'm sure it's some Govt. Regulation now, but all it accomplishes is to cause spills because you need three hands to operate it! I should've kept my old steel flexi from the older Blitz', it worked great and never spilled.

Hi, I would like to have a new flex spout similar to the one I had years ago with my Jeep CJ-5, but I would need the smaller diameter one. I was told by a few people that the can threads are the same as the original cans. I'll be looking for one.

Use two of the GI cans, especially for topping the boat without dragging it to the station, haven't been able to find the screw-in spout but this works well, no gas in the mouth...Siphon Pump - Specialty Tools - Tools - Griot's Garage

Don't carry a lot of gas, only for gen when out of LPG, but it's in here, I'm sure some would frown on that also,

No problem with the location, I carry gas in the same location. But a 5 gal metal jerry can seems a little large. Where the heck are you going?

Looks good to me. I use plastic ones on top of Avalanche rear panel along with water. I label gas "E85" to deter theft.
Were did did get your Metal container?

Looks great to me. A Jerry can full of mogas can be a lifesaver. Although I do prefer the newer plastic Jerry cans that have been standard Army issue for 10 years or so. The new plastic spout or "refueling adapter" works much better than the old metal one. The new Jerry cans are tan and not red though. Kind of interesting that the military doesn't have to follow all the government regulations.

Just be sure you use the gas in the can periodically and refill it with fresh gas. With all the crap they add to gasoline these days, its quality degrades over time.

Hi, I bought the can holder from a Military Surplus store. They are cheaper from Amazon, but I'm running short on time to get out of Dodge. I bought the can from a relative who works at an auto parts store and saved money on it. I used a piece of wood to bolt the can holder to. I bolted the piece of wood to my battery box frame. The can is held in place with a strap on the can holder, a ratcheting strap, and a cable with a lock on it. I sure hope it doesn't come loose and scratch my un-waxed trailer.

Hi, see post number nine. Although there are several places to buy them like through Amazon, E-bay, and local auto parts stores.

Hi, probably nothing wrong with plastic gas cans, but I still like and use [at home] metal cans. Something about static electric. My Lincoln has a plastic gas tank.

Hi, I'm used to keeping gas for long periods of time, but I know the new cr@p, I mean gas, isn't very good. And they plan to make it worse. The new mixture will cause damage to my year 2000 Lincoln and I already had to rebuild a very low mileage rebuilt engine in my 59 Galaxie because of the change to un-leaded gas. I guess this a way to force people to buy new cars, to help the economy?

I find that old 1/2 gallon milk cartons work great to carry that spare fuel...you'd be surprised how many you can cram into the TV, right next to the ash tray... NOT!

Back to reality...I've used the a few of the old JEEP cans for years on other projects, but I always manage to spill some fuel during the pouring...

I switched to the NATO, European type JEEP cans, that use a different spout - the 'spillage' was less, but still a factor...

The best spare fuel container I've used are the large plastic square type popular with the motorcycle crowd - you'll see em' strapped onto their trailers...only problem is the size - rather large, and don't 'pack' well unless you've got space in a utility trailer...

I now just use the 2 gal plastic fuel jugs...cheap, handy and easy to stash in the back of the TV...

IMPORTANT NOTE: Please, please, when refilling your portable fuel containers at the gas station - REMOVE them from your vehicle and place on the ground BEFORE filling!

It's easy to build up static electricity and cause a spark at the nozzle when the containers are insulated from the ground, as happens when they remain on board - the vehicles tires being the 'insulators'...
