Got another clone question....

Who made the Argosy, Avon and other Airstream clones?

Were they built buy A/S or a competitor or what?

The more I talk to people, the different the stories get.

Any info?

Thanks,

Eric

Argosy was made by Airstream as a less costly model and was used as a test bed for future design features.

The Avions were made by a different company that has been purchased by Fleetwood. They no longer make an Aluminum sided trailer.

As they say "Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery"

So is it safe to assume that Argosys are no longer being made?

I got into a discussion where this guy insisted they still were being made. I did not think they were.

Nope,

The Ones shaped like a classic AS ceased production in the late 70's. Seems they stopped when Airstream was going down (Pre Thor). The name was revived in the late 80's on a square sided alumimum bonded trailer that was later painted silver and sold as an Airstream. Can you say testbed again, these never really caught on. Many owners that have one of these "Squarestreams" will not part with them because they are well made and very roomy. This is where the lie down LP Bottles that are on the Limited models first appeared. I think the last ones were built in 89?

Nothing since then with the Argosy nameplate has come out of the Fatory that I know of.
