I gotta admit, Stone Mountain is a fine rock.

Will the big rock be a tourist attraction like the worlds biggest ball of string?

I bet the dogs will love it too!
How about carbon fiber? Light weight and high tech snazzy.

I also want to know, why? (As well as who, what, when, and where; some have already been answered, but we need the rest)

Levitated Mass | LACMA click on video.

Always good advice to level the frame before welding in cross members.

22 Dollies X 8 Tires each + 3 trucks X 10 tires each = 206 total.
Of coarse that is not counting all the escort and support cars and trucks.

they're moving it, because they can. The only way that would be cooler is if they coordinated a bunch of helicopters to move it.

They should have went to Can-Am and got a VW Touareg TDI setup properly to tow it.

Well it is easy to see why it had to be moved. It just looked so out of place in its natural environment.

Moving from Riverside to L.A.

It would have been less expensive to just use some grease and wait for the next big Quake to let Mother Nature move it herself! But I'm sure if the Rock had its' choice it would rather go to Disneyland...Ha!

to me, its obvious why the Big Rock needed to be moved...pure economics and a forward thinking city...

With the Big Rock about to become a huge tourist attraction, it's much cheaper to spend some money and relocate it to a spot where the excited masses can view utilzing public transportation. Even if eveyone of the millions of excited people drove the 110 miles in a Prius, it's very obvious to me, the relocation effort is much Greener...

It's our govt's latest stimulus spending bonanza..."let's find a big rock somewhere and tie up the highways to move it to town - think of all the jobs, police escorts, hard hats, lunch wagons, tire inflators, crane operators we'll employ!"

Another Flintstone Theme Park? Planning my trip now! (TIC)

If you want to see a giant anything, go to Australia! It's a cultural obsession....which doesn't say much about their culture.

I seems to me that thing would have been easier to transport if they had just broke it up into smaller pieces first...

70K to buy it, and 10 Million to move it. Maybe I don't want one after all. I will stick with the ones that I already have. The most I paid for any of them was a little back ache.

Did you see any type of WD bar hitch? It would take an entire PC to monitor their TPMS inputs.

Seriously, heard this one this AM on NPR.

I think it's pretty gneiss ... at the very least, not something to be taken for granite. So - anyone know when it's slated to be installed?

(Sorry, I couldn't help myself!)

Hey we all had it wrong...

Triple A was called when the old pre-historic forest axle broke and the wheels came off as the Flintstone family were looking for a good camp site at the Slate Stone Quarry. When the Triple A tow truck arrived they loaded it up with a cover over it and headed to Inland to get a new OEM Axle & running gear. They heard Andy was the "Rockstream" dealer in the L.A. area. Just Kidding Andy (Do you still have those Cocoa Pebbles moon hubcaps)? LOL! Ed

Darn! I wish these dedicated rock movers had been around when I was trying to get a big rock out of the way of a bridge abutment we were building!!!
