Gas Campfire

During our last forums rally at Trout Lake, I was introduced to a novel idea (to me) when we gathered around the campfire. CJohnson and his friend Theo brought out a propane fueled campfire called "Fire Dancer". The campground had just posted a "NO CAMPFIRES" sign that day in our campground. This was a safe alternative because there were no sparks, no smoke, not a lot of heat thrown off (OK, because it was a warm evening), but provided the ambiance of a campfire. It was great, and I think most rallyers enjoyed having the "fake fire"! It only weighs 14 lbs, is 7.5" x 14" in size so would be easy to store, burns about one pound of propane per hour (20 hours of fire on a large tank), and no mess or hassle of carrying wood or buying wood at the campground for $6.00/bundle. I did a search on the forums and found one thread, with "fire dancer", or "gas campfire".....and that was a post by "California Streamin", who got one of these for Christmas.
Anyone else out there using one of these.........and how do you like it??
Here's a link to what they look like Gas Campfire

We don't have one...but a couple of members in our unit do and share. They are a nice alternative to a 'real' fire when things are to dry or restrictions apply, which is almost all summer here.

It was ordered from Poole & Sons www.pooleandsons.com last week. They had it on sale. We paid $94.95 and $7.73 frieght. It arrived in 3 days.

We only got the fireplace and not the log insert. I thought it would be easy to find a couple of pieces of fake log to put inside - WRONG! I will be ordering the log insert - i guess.....

It came with vermiculite and is really nifty. It burns w/o the funny ceramic log but looks less.... real.

Talking Campfire traditions ...

Will just any brand of marshmellows work, or do you need a special kind?

In my skim of the website, did I miss the size/diameter? Janet is going to think I'm the most curious person out there. Usually, I'm more like Cliff Clavin...feeling very "off my game" today.

it's about 15" across - but puts out a pretty good flame despite it's conservative stature.

Where did you find that? Is there a bigger one available. We were pretty impressed with the little one at the campout, but a big one on the deck at home would be WAY cool!

The fire burner is 14" - the stone ring that they sell to go around it is 33"
