Any National Guard folks on here. Did I hear on TV today that they are only eligible for something like $12,500 govt. life insurance for war time vs. $250,000 for active military. I came in on the end of a piece and it didn't sound right.
Hi ALL...

Seems I started a war of My own here, I did'nt realise it would be a full blown debate, abt ONE Guy bein elected for a second term, so I guess I'll jus say SORRY abt postin in the first place, I kinda LOST the plot now, as I don't understand Yr ways of Governin, & after readin the posts...I guess I don't wanna either...Chris.....A little too heavy 4 Me....

I've just run into Minneapolis and back (70 miles each way) in a sharp 8" snowstorm and subsequent ground blizzard from 30mph winds. So I'm a bit wired and wide awake -- I'll have some clotted cream on my muesli if you are serving...
Being one of the 49-percenters in our country I didn't know I'd be so upset last night. T'waren't fun!

Confusing, n'est ce pas? I can't name names because the posters I disagree with most do a great job the other 99% of the time. You saw some respectful (well, almost...) opposition degenerate into having fun again. I'm feeling a whole lot better about this tonight!
But who could say it better (don't Google on 'bushism' or you'll burn up your Saturday):
Quote:
"I always jest to people, the Oval Office is the kind of place where people stand outside, they're getting ready to come in and tell me what for, and they walk in and get overwhelmed by the atmosphere. And they say 'man, you're looking pretty.' "—Washington, D.C., Nov. 4, 2004
I don't know what it means but we are getting back to normal -- nobody but you could have started such fun!
[By way of explanation:
Kinky Friedman was a 'unique' singer in the late '70's (I will say no more). He is a rancher, raconteur and general rabble-rowser -- living in my native Texas and swearing he'll run for governor.
You just about can't do anything more to fire up a Red voter (gawd I hate those color analogies) than invoke the name of Hillary Clinton. I don't know why... ]

Fix Or Repair Daily As far as George Bush goes (after all it is the subject at hand) we don't have to agree with everything he does and one thing that I disagree with him is his choice of vehicles - he drives a Ford - although his gov't issue vehicle (the limo) is a GM product.
Uh... is this aimed at anyone in particular, or should we all be offended?

I hate the whole red & blue thing. People think if they know who you voted for, they know all they need to about you. As if that sums it all up nicely. It completely ignores the fact that people have different issues that matter most to them, and tries to sum it all up in a simple color. If you know what 'color' someone is, you know all you need to to know if you like them or not. Obviously this oversimplifies the issue! But hey, we Americans like it simple, don't we?
However, the fact is that knowing if someone is red or blue doesn't tell you much of anything about them at all. Which is why we all get along pretty well the rest of the time when we're not talking politics. We all have more in common than we have differences. We all want to be safe, secure, healthy and wealthy enough to live the way we choose. The best way to reach those goals are where we might have different opinions. Even with differeing opinions I know most people aren't all that extreme in their views as the vocal minority. But enough with the labels!
Actually, that's just California throwing off the average for the other blue states.
I don't actually know who's blue and who's red, I didn't pay any attention to it in the media. Like I said, it's not real information, it's just a handy way for the media to pigeonhole everyone. I think WA and OR are blue, but I don't know for sure.
I think that shades of purple would be a much better way of illustrating how each state voted. The red-blue thing is too black-and-white to suit me...
The attached chart was sent to me immediately after the election by a friend who lives in NEPAL. He alleges that it came from a friend of his who is a Brit (Chris? would it be you? ) I present it here only for it's "Fun" value. Please don't anyone take offense... it's about as meaningless as the ratio of psychologists by state!
I tried to copy and paste it into a post, but it was too large. I've attached it as a Word document... darn it. Sure takes some of the fun out of it!
Here, however, are the references if anyone is so offended that they want to look up where this stuff came from:
Quote:
The IQ numbers were originally attributed to the book "IQ and the Wealth of Nations", though they do not appear in the current edition. The tests and data were administered via the Raven's APT, and the The Test Agency, one of the UK's leading publishers and distributors of psychometric tests. This data has been published in the Economist and the St. Petersburg Times, though this does not mean it should be taken as fact.
