interesting that hubris is such a topic these days - and so visible in this thread.

Those worried about the risk US soldiers are taking in Iraq should compare their risk to what it would be if they were in the 'hoods of LA or Chicago.

Those who worry about the US might also stop to think about stepping on the toes of the guy who is holding the umbrella over you in the rain.

Those who worry about death and destruction in ongoing conflicts should carefully consider the hundreds of thousands in mass graves in Iraq as an example of what happens if we do nothing.

Those who worry about the celebrations or their not being called to sacrifice can think about the blessings that make it possible - and then think about what is really needed from each of us in the efforts to promote freedom and justice in the world. It is not money or wealth or goods that are needed but rather a contribution to the spirit, an optimism, and a joining in towards an ultimate goal.

Take a look at the Wally Byam Creed. It is an expression of freedom. Then take a look at some of the messages here - the ridicule, the envy, the judgments against others - what does it say of us in how we look at others? at what we think about freedom as something of value to each of us individually?

Perhaps we need on occasion to lift our eyes and look towards the horizon, the see the world in light of the Wally Byam creed and to think about how our perceptions and opinions and attitudes contribute to making such desires possible.

I do too and me thinks this isn't the last conflict we are going to see either. I can see two more countries on the radar. If it actually happens or not, who knows.

I have a lot of respect for the folks in the military in general, regardless of thier posting. Being a fully volunteer military, these folks made the choice for public service. Some pay for it dearly as do their families.

I have been sending personal care products to our Washington State Troops in Iraq. Items such as AA batteries, toothpaste, dental floss, tooth brushes, candy, peanuts, CD movies etc. We get many letters about what they have done with the people over their. Our blocked media only shows us the bad stuff.
Remember Iraq used to put men in brush chippers in front of their families. American's memories are so short. Mass graves like Hilter did. Our troops are doing something good. Look at how many people get killed in the US everyday from shootings, car wrecks, snow accidents, die of old age or of health problems. I support our troops Navy, Air Force, Army or Marines.

This seems very true. I believe if you look at the yearly stats of those killed on the highways and roads of America, you will find far more have died needlessly on our highways and roads than in our military losses in Iraq. Maybe even Iraq and Afganistan combined in one year.

My predictions

Throughout this thread there are some unanswered questions, so.......

I predict that:

1. They'll find that the squid were killed by the gas let loose by undersea volcanoes that were activated by the Indoniesan earthquake.

2. All the rain received in California is to make it easier to slide into the ocean when the "big one" hits.

3. President Bush will continue to make decisions the best he knows how, and someone will disagree with him.

4. We will continue to loose our citizens to war, cancer, drunk drivers, natural disasters and stupidity (i.e. skiing in an avalanche zone).

5. I will eventually get the drapes made for my Sovereign.

Have a nice day!

This might be of interest to the Airstreamers. Senate bill 2005-SB-5113 will premit the Dept of Ecology authority to charge us for rain water runoff. If it is collected in a cistern or rain barrel. I know a few people who do that. Goverment is getting out of hand.

Now I know how goofy rumors get started.

If you would read the bill, you might understand that it's purpose is exactly the opposite of what you are claiming.

1380 Days & you get to vote again!

24 Hours of flame ... uh, er ... fame I mean.

If Kinky Friedman can switch to knock off Jeb in Florida I am sure Spongebob & Hillary will be the subjects of equal controversy from the Red direction when they win the next one.

I'm starting the H. R. Clinton thread tomorrow, serve you right you gosh darned rattzle-frazzles....

Didn't we say polly-ticks don't make good bed mates? (twin or double? SpaceFoam or Bearbeds? Safari or Classic? Gas or Diesel? Ford or GM?*)

*oops -- sorry to bring up religion again

I think he answered that question when we entered Iraq without "permission" from Russia, France, and the rest of the people around the world.

The WMD's were probably smuggled into one of the neighboring countries at the last minute or are hidden in another very large spider hole somewhere else in Iraq.
