In a peaceful tone, I have but three things to say
1) WMD WAS FOUND!!!! How can any one, no matter what side of the isle you're on or country you're from, look at those pictures of dead Kurds, villages of men, women & children & NOT call it mass destruction? The draining of the marshes & the obliteration of a whole culture of people & NOT call it mass destruction. Why? Why? Does the world not care????
2) Whatever your view of today events happen to be. ---no one got killed, no car bombs exploded, no rockets were fired & peaceful dissent was allowed. However at a distance.
3) I don't care how much $ they spent today, as I had nothing to say about it. My (limited) freedoms are still alive, suffering some ailments, but alive & for that I give thanks. Nuf said!! Now back to Streaming .
I am thankful that the moderators have allowed this spirited discussion of an important day in our National history.
It is truly an American thing to do. Discuss with passion, and let the debate roll, agreeing to disagree, or agreeing to compromise in the middle, it is the pen and the debate that made this country great in it's ideals and Constitution.
Thanks again.
The cool thing about the thing that we are doing right now is that we have the freedom to do it. Whether it's "talking" on this forum or "streaming" down the highway. We don't have to get a permit to use the internet and we don't have a border crossing checkpoint every time we cross a state line.
God Bless the USA!!!!

The concept of an inauguration is certainly acceptable, but isn't once enough ? Was the president recently deinaugurated and I missed it ? Even the Brits, with all the warts of royalty in full view, only had one coronation for the charming and stoic Elizabeth.
The costs are shallow and transparent, in lieu of the painful difficulty of losing five of our young people every day, another fifty that will be permanently disfigured, and probably another five hundred who will be cerebral silly putty the rest of their lives in a difficult war that we may never win. When juxtaposed to the recent tsunami tragedy, the loss of two million people in the Sudan over the past twenty years, and a world living in the long shadow of international terrorism, wouldn't a small private party for the political cognoscenti been adequate and more thoughtful ? Is it any wonder that that majority of the world views us with disdain, as effete elitists ?
Would I be the only one who observed the parade and found it ludicrous to watch an armor plated Cadillac Escalade with mirror tinted windows up, escorted by a legion of armed men, buses, military commando vehicles, sniper swat teams on every building roof, and a 150 mi perimeter no-fly zone protected by jet fighters and blackhawk helicopters, so that the loyalists could watch from the sidelines at $125 a head in the sub-freezing cold ?
I can't dismiss the feeling that under a large circus tent, I am watching circles of sawdust rings, brightly costumed trapeze artists overhead, eagerly awaiting the entrance of the clowns.
Although I've never met George Bush personally, I have no doubt that he would be both fun and clever and likable, either across a poker table, pheasant hunting or on the links. He's a man's man.
Before many of you eagerly rip into my observation and the evocative, friendly, but often eviscerative replies that are sure to follow, allow me the following disclaimer;
1) I voted for President Bush, with a minor, but thoughtful and tortured reluctance in both 2000 and 2004 (as I suppose many in the forum did).
2) I voted for Bill Clinton in 1992 and 1996.
3) and believe this, voted for Richard Nixon, not once, not twice, but three times (1960, 1968, and 1972). In 1960, one of the few under the age of 25 not to vote for JFK, and I'm still ashamed.
4) my wife and I were invited to this inauguration (not at the white house level, however), but chose to decline. And not just because it's 73 F in southern Arizona either.
So, please understand, no one is perfect. And like most airstreamers, regardless of political persuasion, hardly any of us need an excuse to get together and have a party. But overall, the activities today were more than discomforting, they created some despondency and sadness, and as a country, I think we could have done much better.

Lots of ordinary people got a pay check. How could anyone bitch about that.

As for the Canadians who want to criticize our President and our Country, guess who will get the call when they have problems or get in over their heads. Just like for the rest of the world, our money and our military are evil until somebody needs us.
I once asked a simple question on here and it was misinterpreted as political and the stream was deleted -- how about getting rid of this clearly political message. It does not belong here.

Perzactly....Catagory: "Off Topic"...that means it probably doe NOT discuss Airstreams...for those of you in Rio Lindo, CA and Evanston, IL....It is in the right place...you were warned before reading it. If you disagree with the content, you have the power to turn off the computer....or just not go to the Off Topic Catagory if you don't want to discuss anything not Airstream...
NEWPORT BEACH, Calif. - Hundreds of giant squid are washing up on Orange County beaches, creating a scene more akin to "20,000 Leagues Under the Sea" than "The O.C."
The bug-eyed sea creatures, believed to be Humboldt squid, normally reside in deep water and only come to the surface at night. Why approximately 500 of them began washing up on the sands of Laguna Beach and Newport Beach on Tuesday isn't clear.
Authorities said the squid — the biggest weighing 17 pounds — might have been pursuing bait fish and gotten too close to shore, or the tides might simply have carried them in.
"I have heard of this happening before, but it's not a common occurrence," lifeguard Capt. Eric Bauer of the Newport Beach Fire Department said Wednesday.
Authorities plan to remove the squid in the next couple of days and will give at least a couple to the Santa Barbara Museum of Natural History for research.
In the meantime, beachgoers were advised not to eat or even touch them. "They probably have bacteria on them at this point," Bauer said.
I'd have to agree. Being in the "off topic" part of the forum, as long as folks can be civil.........
If not, well, I'm sure the thread will be locked or removed as have nasty political threads in the past.
