It was a marathon! Actually kind of fun, well at least for me. We left at 4AM on Friday and I did most of the driving. My bride did drive some. Like 3 or 4 hours a day. We had a lil mishap in Tulsa on the way back. Other than that it was uneventful which is my favorite way of towing.
Technically we got back on Monday morning. However it was 3 or 4 AM not sure which.

to see if Im crazy to actually go out of state for an Airstream.

Was considering an out-of-state trailer the other day. About 432 miles past the state line. But the first 915 miles are across this state.

Does mileage testing count?

Before returning home, we made our first trip to Florida where we visited with some Airstream friends. Then meander back through the Carolinas and stopped at Jackson Center for some minor updates. What a great time we had!
Boy am I glad that you did! Otherwise we would never have met you!
Our trip was a mere 6 hours total... after the decision had been made to buy... after 3 years of leasing AS trailers and 9000 miles of testing mileage!

Yes, friendships formed with Airstreamers are fantabulistic! You say a mere 6 hours trek for your trailer? But wait!!!! Think how far you will go to get your newest Vintage addition when it is completed:-)

Not ready to make the trip yet - we are having restoration work first.
Map Quest says "Total Travel Estimate: 20 hours 23 minutes / 1232.48 miles "

Of course that is one way.... and we will be making the trip 3 times....

I am in the process of planning a road trip from Camarillo CA to Mobile Al which is about 4200 round trip to pick up a 2007 23LE (the one with the lounge). But you gotta go where ya gotta go. I've pulled bumper-pulls and fivers for years, but I'm really exited about picking up our first Airstream. I'm weird I guess, but I love road trips. We're already planning a trip to Yellowstone for next year and then Whistler, Canada after that.

Dont feel bad, I just made 3 back to back trips TN to Fla to purchase the current AS we have. After the first trip and seen how good of condition it was in and the fact that it is a collectors edition (Norman Rockwell Legend).

If you're weird, we all are. Airstream and road trips go together.

Thumbs up

I drove from Kansas to Wilismsburg VA (2600 miles round trip) and smiled the whole way. Miles of smiles! Of course the ice storm (last 250 miles) was gut wrenching but once she was home I kicked on the heater and spent most of the winter setting her up. Take pictures! Enjoy your new baby.
