Thumbs up Cross country purchase

We found the 2017 27fb that we ended up buying in Orange County, CA - while we were on vacation, driving around and noticing that west coast dealers have a bigger selection on their lot. So, we came out from Lansing NY to Orange County to pick up our Airstream, and our first road trip was from LA through California, Arizona, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Kansas, Missouri, Indiana, Ohio, and finally NY. It was a great idea first road trip and no real disasters yet.. unless you count running out of gas - twice!

Drove 1,300 miles twice and bought. Drove 850 miles and didn't buy. I hate to think of how many miles I've wasted recently in trying to find a decent rig, only to come up empty.

Was it worth it?
I'm dealing with the logistics of a dealer 3 hrs away.
I see some folks love the Ohio dealer, is it worth it?
I can see if you find the perfect used one, have no trade, but you can't save much by driving a tow vehicle cross country. (Not to mention the 6,000 miles added to the TV.)

Searched for a specific trim level 2015 23D International Serenity (factory street and rear awning, microwave and inverter after the 2016s were out. Drove from Phoenix to New Jersey to get the trailer and returned via CanAm in London, Ontario, Canada (for Hensley Arrow hitch fine tuning) and then to the modification shop just northwest of Dallas. Went back to Dallas after the conversion and brought the unit to Phoenix. All in all about 5,000 miles of driving.

From Napa, Ca to Colonial in New Jersey. Stopped off in South Dakota to get residency. Saved over $10,000 doing so.

About 3400 miles. Flew out from Myrtle Beach SC to Sacramento Calif. Bought 2017 Ram 2500 TV and 2016 Classic. Came back by way of Reno, Las Vegas Flagstaff, Phoenix, Tucson, then direct to Myrtle Beach. Loved the trip.

1,675 round trip from Atlanta to Lakewood, NJ (Colonial). First time Airstream, first time RVing. Yes, it was worth it and I had a blast and plan on making that trip at least once a year for maintenance and warranty issues if necessary.

We traveled 1000 miles from Dothan, Alabama to Saginaw, Michigan to get our 72 22' Argosy several years ago. We had a wonderful trip and don't regret a moment of it!
