Furthest you've gone to purchase a camper
This question is for fun and to see if Im crazy to actually go out of state for an Airstream.
Question: What is the furthest(or farthest) distance you have travelled to purchase your camper?

To buy our 34' front kitchen . . .
. . . we drove 3190 miles from the northwest to Lakehurst NJ and back again!
With a few side trips on the way back west, i.e. one to the Mothership in Ohio, a total of 6700 miles to buy our Airstream.

Buying out of state...
We are taking delivery next week on a 27FB Int.CCD from the dealer in St.Louis...This was an ordered unit...We live in Mobile,Al... I will go anywhere in the US of A in order to get the best deal from the best dealer...
We also have a Moho (SOB) bought at a Ntl Branded rally in Myrtle Beach S.C. from an Atlanta,Ga. Dlr that we have never been too...Took delivery at factory in Decatur, Indiana...
We buy these things to roll the wheels bunches and do so to see this great land we live in... So rolling to buyem and go gettem is lots of fun too...

Well we said that we would go 500 miles one way to pick up the right trailer. But somehow we got really lucky and bought ours 3 miles from our house!

I drove more than 1000 miles to buy two of the three vehicles sitting in the driveway right now. When we bought the Airstream, I searched all the dealers in the US that I could find. Colonial and Airstream of Arkansas both came in with lower prices than I could get locally for the same unit. In the end, it boiled down to what it was going to cost to go get it and bring it back. The math made it a break even proposition, so we ended up buying locally. Had I known then what I know now about that particular dealer, I would have driven to Arkansas or NJ instead.
At any rate - The best dealer with the best deal on what I want will get my business. Cars, trucks and trailers have wheels on them for a reason. If you can't find what you want locally, a couple of thousand miles of travel shouldn't be a deal breaker.

I went from Dallas to middle Michigan. Yes I was crazy. Most people experience a temporary (or longer) insanity. Some call it aluminum fever. It makes you do things that you and other would call crazy.

From Utah to Mena, Arkansas, about 2,800 miles round trip. But, as we all know, the adventure is in the journey and believe me it was an adventure.

For our first Globe Trotter, we drove from Chicago to Tacoma, WA and back - logging about 4200 miles (many of which were through snowy mountains in December) back in 2003. First time towing, too - I've never seen my knuckles quite so white.
I must've wised up when replacing that GT with our second one in 2008. I flew from Chicago to Dallas, hopped a bus to Texarkana, bought a vintage tow vehicle, drove to Beaufort SC and took the new pair back home. So if you count flying and bus travel... that's around 3000 miles.
Jezibels, as you're finding out, there isn't a ton of Aistream stock to be had around here in Chicago - at least not compared with the west coast IMHO. As others have said though, the adventure of picking up a new silver friend is extremely exciting, and by that measure... the further flung your new trailer is, the more fun you'll have!

We bought from a dealer 240 miles away, but if I knew more then, I would have gone much further to find a good dealer.

We bought in Mobile, AL, and towed her home to Minnesota - about 2300 miles round trip. The joy is in the journey.

Each way was 1,850 miles, Total 3,700 miles. Utah to Georgia and back to get my 1965 Safari. Left Utah Thursday afternoon made it across Wyoming and just into Nebraska. Friday was an 867 mile day, made it to just east of St. Louis, Missouri. Saturday picked up the Airstream just east of Atlanta, Georgia and started back to Utah. Sunday, made it to just west of St. Louis, Missouri. Monday got back to about North Platte, Nebraska (half way across Nebraska). Tuesday I was home again in Utah. I slept in the back of my 2006 Explorer in Rest Areas or on side dirt roads, what ever I could find. Had a cooler of food (cold-cuts and bread for sandwiches, yogurts, hard-boiled eggs, juice drinks, etc.) ate at rest stops.
All I stopped for was a morning cup of coffee and gas.
I looked for about a year and just wasn’t finding any mid 60's Globe Trotters or Safaris closer to home so I just factored the cost of gas into the final purchace price.
It was a fun road trip, hadn't driven that route before.

Amherst, NH to El Paso, TX., 4,848 miles round trip. Took a week off from work and, had a blast. I made new friends and, enjoyed traveling the backroads strip solo. For me, that's just about the only way to enjoy the travel.

We bought our AS local after seeing it set unused for two years DW went to their door and asked if they would sell. Of course they said they had to much in it to sell and that should been a clue anyway we paid to much but hey life is short.
On our SOB MH we flew from Tulsa to Phoenix and bought site unseen (except pictures) took five days to drive back no problems reallyenjoyed the trip and very little maintenance since, that was in 2004.

Drove from South Florida to the mountains of Western North Carolina to pick up our Overlander. A comparatively short round trip, it was only 1800 miles.

I drove 900 miles each way to walk away from an Airstream. It was not a fun weekend.
