fun find --- vintage family AS photo's

My grandparents were avid streamers most of their adult lives. Though their home was in WV, they traveled most of the year in their AS, residing in FL for a few months and in Mexico each year. When they passed, all I wanted was their AS. Unfortunately my mom found that she could get some cash for the rig - so I never saw it again..... So, 20 yrs later I finally got mine - all because of the positive influence of my grandparents.

Though few of my grandparents belongings made it to me - there are four rubbermaid containers of rememberants - old (really old) photo albums and some small nick-nacks. I spent about four hours going quickly through them this weekend and found some really cool items: lots of pictures of them caravaning through Central America, at lots of ralley's, an old international window sticker, and two of their "past presidents" badges. But the coolest item was a journal/log of their travels in Central America - with little notes of their dealing with locals, border patrols, overnight stays and lots of references to who was hosting the evening cocktails! I can tell by the photos and log (which I had never even seen previously) that they really loved traveling in their AS and it gave me a completely different insight to their lives. So cool.

I'll try to post some of the neat photo's - some are truly classic!

I am sure we all would love to see them. Are you a VAC member? How about seeing if the VAC might publish some of them in their mag?

Unhappy Vintage Pics added!

I'm not certain how many pictures I can upload, but I'll give it a try. There are hundreds more pics.... some of ralley's with, literally, hundreds of airstreams together in parks around the US and caravans (with less numbers) in Central America, England/Wales/Scotland and Canada..... I'd give about anything to have their WBCII berets.

This must have been in the mid 60's (thanks Shari for alerting me of the correction of the decade). And that must be ME in the last photo, on my grandmother's lap....

This is one of the few pictures showing the inside of their Airstream. It's one of my favorite photographs. There is a family crest hanging at the kitchen that I also found. My grandfather painted it (he was a graphic artist) and did a lot of research on our family history during their caravan to the UK.

I love these "classic's". My grandmother was a model for Helen Certa (in Mexico). Her clothing was impeccable - and I can see she was always ready for a photograph.

My mom and I are in the second photo --- must have been around 1967.

I know that my grandfather painted the name plate. He did everything in calligraphy ....

In 1976, my grandparents flew my parents and I to Mexico for Christmas. We stayed in an airstream a few doors down from them at Yuca Trailer Park in Guadalajara. My grandmother taught yoga every moring at the park.

My grandmother, though being in the forefront of alternative medicine, was a sun worshiper - which is surprising .... When she was young, her bathrobe caught fire on the furnace in one of their airstreams. My grandfather heard her screaming, got her out and rolled her down the hill. She suffered third degree burns on 60% of her body. Spent months in the hospital - horrific. She had my grandfather apply straight Aloe on her burns - and always thought it saved her. Suposedly, the doctors said that it couldn't hurt.....

The picture of my grandparents together is exactly how I remember them. Loving life! Happy! Social! I did find the badges they are wearing and am trying to think of a good way to display them in my airstream. I think they used to pin them on the curtain.....

Very cool pictures! I am constantly scouring antique stores for old photo albums with Airstream pictures - so far without any luck! How cool to have one with your family as focal point.

However, I think there's something goofy with this one:

Either that's not you mom on your grandma's lap or your mom wasn't born in '41...the trailer (and the car) appears to be from the late 60's.

Anyway, very fun regardless!!!

OMG --- So that picture must be ME! LOL

You'd think I would have recognized that the cars were definately not those from the 40's! I'm such a dork.
