Last nite at one station diesel was 3.209, higher than their premium gas and another just
a mile down the road was 2.739, less than their unleaded. A difference of 47 cents! Amazin!

Diesel is 3.19 to 3.29 (ouch). I keep thinking I should stop at our neighborhood Chinese restaurant and get some old egg roll grease to use in Chummy.

Diesel is 3.08 here at the cheap places. I was able to get some gas yesterday for 2.95, but even that was a good deal. Everywhere else had it for 3.05.

Diesel back up to 3.18 and reg gas steady at 2.74. The diesel market is like a yo-yo. I feel sorry for those folks heating with oil.

The Chevron station in town has diesel for $3.799, they just got a load in, as did the Shell minimart who has it priced at $3.049. Quite a spread for 2 stations 1000 feet apart.

Cape Coral and Fort Myers gas is running between 2.98 and 3.19 per gallon for regular, I don't even want to look at the prices for the other grades!

And as luck will have it, the van needs more than a half tank this week!

From Asheville NC over to Albemarle the prices ran from $3.19 to $2.99. Wal-Mart was at $2.99 less .03 for the prepaid gift card.
I saw $2.89 on Monday in Forest City.... hoping to see it a bit lower soon.

Just crunched the numbers

On my trip I averaged 9.98 mpg
Highest mpg was 12.6 (tailwind coming off the rockies) and the lowest was 6.6 (Livingstn,MT to Butte, MT-40 mph Headwind)
Used 505 gallons of gas
Drove 5041 miles
The cost was 1413.75 for gas alone.

The cheapest was in St Paul MN. @ 2.44gal
The most expensive was in Yellowstone park. @ 3.09 gal.
The second most expensive was in Eastern WA., most every place was 2.99 gal. for reg. ul.

I found the best quality gas at Conoco/ Flying J
I also found my Truck doesn't care for 85 Oct. gas

FYI - I have a 1995 F-250 with a 460 engine.

Just got back from Branson. Found gas cheaper once we got about 100 miles southwest of St. Louis. Cuurent price here is STL is $2.85. It's about 20-25 cents a gallon cheaper once you get out of town.

Interestingly enough from what I can see gas prices have affected the locales that I travel in. My campground down in Branson only had 35 of 200 sites occupied. That's a big time change since I remember many years same dates where I couldn't get in because I called too late.

I saw this up in Door County Wisconsin also in August where again the campground I stayed at previously was quite visually absent of the usual crowds this time around.

I think the prices are taking their toll.

These fuel prices are affecying the entire economy. Even if you don't drive. Reg gas held even today at 2.61 but diesel is up to 3.19.

hi folks and all held hostage by fuel prices...

just stopped by the local shell (prairie village ks) for a little crude for the big dog....87 octane gasoline is 2.30$ while diesel is 3.70$$$$$$$$$$$$$$.

for those without pdas that's a 1.40$ spread.

it's good to see gas prices returning to a reasonable level but man are they stickin' it to the diesel folks....

i mostly buy at the interstate truck stops so i'm sure this local spot is a little higher...but still.....

refineries have ramped up gas production and wholesale prices are down, even though crude oil is still >60$/barrel....that's why gas prices are down.....that and no doubt political pressures.

this diesel issue will surely affect recreational travel but now folks buying high mpg cars that use diesel (4/10 top mileage cars are vw diesels) are getting burned, so will truckers......with everything/one transporting merchandise/food and so on.

also greatly affected will be public transportation since budgets are fixed and subsidizes at the max....local kcmo bus service went up 25% today....which will hit the poor mostly.

fire/ambulance/road maintence and other public services will also be scrambling again since no one budgeted for this big a fuel bill.

and of course public schools which have some of the tightest budget issues will all be bleeding money to cover busing children...

the new cleanest fuel standards are about to kick in taking sulfur to near zero...the euro standard.... so prices will go up for this reason after jan 06....

diesel drives the nation/economy and commerce has the fewest "alternatives" to look toward.....

meanwhile every big and small petrol company is reporting historic/record profits this quarter and 40-60% profit increases for the year.....allso at record levels.

sure glad i ride my bicycle everyday and everywhere....and that i didn't sell the car when purchasing the f250....

may have to change my screen name to 2airispricey....

cheers
