diesel today

Paid $3.29 for diesel today in Newport Beach, California. Yesterday it was $3.17. According to fuel price history logs, there is usually a year high spike in the second week of August. They SOBs cant even let us take a vacation without squeezing our cheeks. Has anyone noticed pumps with two spaces to the left of the decimal point?

Unleaded - $3.27
Diesel - $3.39 here in San Diego, CA
Researching best tow vehicle for my first AS, I thought the F-250 would be the one…
Heard good things about diesel in tow vehicle threads…
Reading how much 2air’ loves his F-250 Power Stroke Diesel…
But after seeing diesel fuel costs more than premium…
Maybe I should choose the 5.4 L V8…
What would you do?

Bill

Well QT dropped to $2.83 yesterday. We are seeing a wide spread of prices in the STL meto area in the past week. Some stations over $3.00. Not sure why the spread. Unusual since they've been in lock step for many years now.

Bill,
The diesel will pull more weight at a better mileage rate than a equivalent gas engine. Also a diesel has a "potentially" longer life span.

CA diesel

silvergate,

The price of diesel in CA is different than in most states. Besides the fact that fuel is more expensive in CA than most, it is also one of the handfull of states where diesel can be higher than premium. If you are going to travel out of state, the price differential for diesel is a non issue, in fact, it can be lower than regular in some areas. This was my observation during a cross counrty trip in May.

In the land of cheese; reg. 3.24 gal Diesel 3.14 gal.
After traveling around the state the price seems solid at every station from the Dells, to Madison.

Oh, but a few ststions will gladly trade fuel for pelts

hey artlink!

good to read from ya...pelts....i'm dying here!

silvergate...i still love the psd f-250, like most of the users here.

don't want to drift this thread much...

prices, prices and more prices...with a bit of commentary....

but you have a 23 safari? lots of tow options...

why not start a thread on the issue and watch the help roll in....

on the f-250 side the v10 has same hp as the psd...just less torque.

and poorer milage. but it is a very strong gas platform. any diesel should go more miles...
but not everyone is thinking in 200k terms...

with the new ultra low sulfur diesel fuel about to happen, my guess is we will see lots of price flux....for a year or 2. this is going to be a confusing time for sludge runners...

but biod is coming, veggie is coming. expect to see many more diesel cars and trucks in production....a diesel audi won the lemans and sebring races this year!!! cool.

so this is my first diesel...

and i'm still happy to have it. 25k miles towing in 15months...

would buy another without doubt...

cheers

i'm off to trap some beavers and do some skinnin'...and find a lower price...

I got to drive this V10 for a week! Pounded it all week, no smoke whatsoever.

Go Diesel or go home.

hi westfalia....

well you read my mind!

actually my first draft of the post above include this v10....

man is it cool....
you know the us government essentially sent these back to germany...
and required vag to recertify 'em....as i understand.
see the emissions technology was so new and so different and so CLEAN, that the government didn't believe it worked....
they wanted more data...

that is why after the first batch,
it has taken forever to get these diesels models back in dealer inventory...

and this would be a fine tv for the trailer in question...but pricey....

great picture too!

cheers

I saw a Toureg W-10 diesel on Ebay for $89K. Yikes, that's a lot of dough.

There should be no confusion after ULSD comes out, at all. Because that's the only thing that will be available. A 1% drop in mpg will be experienced by all, due to the lower BTU content of the fuel. Lubricity is a concern with this new fuel, although the producers say it will pass "their lubricity test."

I am currently running a small percentage of Biodiesel in my Duramax, between 5-30%. I've got my John Deere 820 up to about 80% now. Neighbors all seem to leave for McDonalds every time we start mowing the lawn. The engine runs noticably quieter now.

Wow, $89k for the Toureg vs $35k for an F-250. The saved money would keep me in fuel for a long time, even at current prices.
