The other day I was on a site and I got one of those pop-ups that I had won a free lap top. I think it was from ShopperSavingCenter.com Ok, I figured I would go along just to see what the catch was. I went through and filled out all of the opt out forms and gave my shipping address, etc. and at last was confronted with the catch: I had to subscribe to at least two promotions including one of those Video Professor CD offers for free (just pay shipping of $6.95 or some similar amount) and the others were things like Discover card or other credit cards and one was for Vonage, etc.
None of these things are items I need or want, but I wandered if they would actually send me this Toshiba, HP, or Compaq lap top for taking the bait and then canceling at the first and cheapest opportunity. Anybody have any experience with this kind of offer? Has anybody got one of these lap tops and then canceled? If they do, I realize it would be yesterday's technology, but do they really go through with there end of the deal?

The deal is you gave them alot of information, this can range from normal marketing to phishing and I bet if you check close you end up with a chance to get the free lap top al a lottery. If it sounds to good to be true.....

That's what I figured, but I wondered. It seems like I saw folks on another forum say they were getting one. Like I said, it wouldn't be today's technology and maybe stuff to be cleared our of inventory. But, they give you TV's and theme park tickets just to tour time-shares so why not last year's lap tops or even reconditioned units as cheap as lap tops are getting these days...Dell's advertising new ones for $399 now.

This must be the latest scam. Had 4 spams this week for Free Laptops.
My better half is hot for a laptop, why, I don't know. So I trundled off to the monthly computer show. FYI you can pick up an off lease laptop loaded with Windows XP Pro and Office for under $400. Really nice ones for $500 to $600.
This looks better to me than "Free".
Just my opinion,
Tom.

The laptops are commercial lease returns, with an 800 mhz processor, and maybe windows ME on it. Which Microsoft is discontinuing support of. If you are lucky, it will have windows 2000 pro on it. If you notice a lot of telemarketing calls for the next few weeks, you will know where they got your info from.

You get nothing but heartburn by going for one of those offers. I know a guy who fell for a bunch of them, got nothing, and was so inundated by SPAM that he had to change ISPs.
