Frank good luck with this approach. No doubt you are a man who loves Airstreams! Wish you success. Please keep us posted with pictures and models you are working on and have for sale.

I think it's a great idea. Very much like "Give away the shaver, and then they'll buy the blades". And why not? I hope Frank gets to refurbish many trailers.

We need our own Frank out here in northern California. It seems there are not many professional restorers out here. How many miles is it from Boulder Creek to Catonsville?

2870!

I think it is a great idea, especially for those that know they want an Airstream and already know that they need someone to do the hard work of getting it the way they want. I know Frank first from these forums when I had an issue and he jumped to assist me, since then I have camped with him and his family. I can not say enough positive words about how sincere, honest and passionate he is.

I wish him nothing but good luck with his endeavor and his dream.

So Frank, is that why you wanted to buy mine? Or are you under the impression I will never finish it?

Your right BUT, it is a long skinny State. You are the new guy and will do a better job to establish your reputation. Besides, going from Nor Cal to So. Cal compared to Nor Cal to Maryland isn't that much further, and you don't get shot at going to Maryland!!!

on the news today they said we had 242 killings and 584 shooting so far this year in Baltimore. You see this is a celebration for in the 80's when crack was King here in Baltimore the number was closer to 356 killings for the year and 1100 shootings. Our Shock Trauma is world renowned. Sobering huh?
But where I live it is fairly safe. I do not think anyone is going to shoot you if you bring a trailer to me.

Lewis, I am still interested if you change your mind.

i can totally believe this offer is on the level. I used to work for a body shop that restored a number of cars, mainly Mustangs and Camaros from the 60s but also some cars and pickups from the 40s and 50s.

The cost of restoration typically exceeded the cost of the car by far, and also exceeded the resale value of the finished vehicle.

Buying an old Airstream for $2000 or $3000 and giving it away to secure the restoration job, amounts to a discount of 4% or 6%. I can easily see someone doing this to promote his business especially in times when demand is not brisk.

Good promotional effort Frank. It saves people the frustration of traveling around looking for a vintage trailer, transporting it, and wondering what to do next and gets you some major business (and the fun of finding and saving one. If this brings you too much business you'll never get to Newfoundland.

And thanks again for your kind messages.

Gene there is no way I am missing Newfoundland. Many people make a bucket list for when they come down with cancer or some other terrible illness. I am not waiting to get sick. After talking to a few people we have decided to jump on over to Labrador for few of the two weeks we are up there. We totally realize we are only going to scratch the surface in such a short time, but few can say they drove to Labrador let alone took their Airstream there.

Frank, I'll be interested to hear about Labrador and the ferry from St. Barbe. The road should be finished up the coast to Goose Bay soon, if it isn't already. The round trip that way and then around to Quebec sounds tempting, though I don't know what condition it's in.
