Fotochop's Band at NOLA Jazzfest with Livestream!

I thought I'd pass along that one of our Forum members is rocking tomorrow on a very big stage--and we can watch him play!

Many here probably know Rick Olivier--AKA Fotochop--for his nifty '69 Safari resto job. He's also an evangelist for New Orleans culture, an amazing photographer...and a musician.

Well, Rick's band the Cajun String Beans has become quite reknown--and now they are being featured on one of the biggest stages at New Orleans Jazzfest!

Best of all, we can all watch along--because the concert is being live streamed on YouTube Sunday night at 8 pm EDT/7 pm CDT/6 pm PDT! Just go to YouTube.com/Jazzfest (or just go to YouTube and click on the big feature banner for Jazzfest).

Laissez le bon temps roulez, let's cheer on a forum member hitting it big and let's rock along with the Cajun String Beans!

Guess I'll have to settle for being square. The clip is great. Virtual Jazz Fest is better in some ways than real Jazz Fest. At least for me. I will watch Jazz Fest coverage, but never again will I attend in person.

I've lived in New Orleans for 30 years, and there was a time when I wouldn't miss a day of the Jazz Fest. One year, I was even a roadie for a local band performing at Jazz Fest. That was a blast!

My last-ever Jazz Fest was a couple of years before Hurricane Katrina, when they were randomly frisking people who came through the gate, and took candy away from a diabetic who needs to carry something sugary in case of a low-glucose event to keep from passing out. The television news stations were all over that one! I was frisked as well that year, and they took away a pack of chewing gum I had in my pocket. Doesn't sound like a big deal; it's only a pack of gum. But it's the mindset that leads event security to frisk people and treat them like criminals that got to me.

I hear that post-Katrina they've gone back to the old way of doing things, just preventing people from bringing in ice chests and picnic hampers, not frisking people to empty their pockets of edibles, but they soured me on Jazz Fest when they subjected me to the indignity. When I told them, "Never again," I meant it.

Mmmm, too bad. We were there about 3 years ago, just for a day, and thoroughly enjoyed it. Live music everywhere, people dancing and really getting into it. Loved it.

NOLA is about music, history, food, culture. One of our favorite places in the world.

Don't get me wrong— I'm not telling ANYONE to miss Jazz Fest! It's a great experience, and I'm glad I went all those times I did. I only had one bad experience in all the times I went, and I'd go again in a heartbeat if not for the fact that I can't go back on my word.

You know, There ought to be a WBCCI Jazz Fest Rally sometime.

That's great for Rick and his band. Sorry I missed it. He posted a clip here a few years ago of him playing with Jimmy Buffett outside the Superdome before a Saints playoff game.

Sure you can---you can reassess, reevaluate, and change your mind!

Don't let yourself miss out for the rest of your life on something you've loved because of one bad experience.

Ok everyone--you don't have to miss it--it's going to be played on YouTube in fifteen minutes (and I suspect they will be posting the recording in the next few days.

Virtual Jazzfest and Cajun String Beans...

And I know Rick was there playing on the big stage, because they showed him playing a guest riff on another show a couple of hours ago!

Checked several times but saw no "Bean" links, what am I missing?

Well, yesterday was the last day of the Jazz Fest for 2012. The live streaming video links are probably dead. Hopefully they'll be replaced by recorded video links at some point.
