They said they included some rivets. I don't see them, though.

Interesting concept. Nice homage to WB. I wonder if it could tow a Base Camp?

That's a cool look, but on second look there doesn't seem to be enough space for a both pooper and a sleeper.

Way cool though. Glad to see Ford coming up with some imaginative products for a change

Airstream, Ford conceive space-age crossover
Associated Press
DETROIT -- Ford Motor Co. has teamed with the maker of Airstream travel trailers to create a concept touring vehicle inspired by spacecraft and by the aerodynamic trailers that became icons of the American road.
The automaker calls the Ford Airstream Concept a futuristic crossover, with its silver color, capsule-shaped exterior, orange-rimmed windows and 12 symbolic rivets that pay homage to Airstream's riveted aluminum construction.
"It's the ultimate modern touring vehicle that delivers flexibility and capability with dynamic design that evokes the spirit of the journey," Peter Horbury, Ford's executive director of design for The Americas, said in a statement.
The concept vehicle, to be unveiled today at the North American International Auto Show, operates under electric power at all times, powered by a plug-in hydrogen hybrid fuel cell.
The passenger side features a powered clamshell door that runs two-thirds the length of the vehicle, and there is a three-door hatch at the rear.
Inside, the focal point of the rear seating area is a screen for entertainment and games that also provides ambient mood settings, including a virtual fire.
"We want to continue finding options for tomorrow's road trips," said Bob Wheeler, president and chief executive of Airstream, based in Jackson Center, Ohio. "Our success ... has come from challenging the conventional thinking about what an Airstream is."

Here is a concept photo or two.

"the Ford-first unique reflective paint and 12 ceremonial rivets, which pay homage to Airstream’s iconic construction."

"Playing to win in the growing crossover segment, Ford has partnered with another iconic company to showcase how it could further expand its lineup of expressive crossovers.
The Ford Airstream Concept is influenced by Airstream’s iconic design and the optimism for the future that Stanley Kubrick captured in his 1960s cult film 2001: A Space Odyssey.
The concept is powered by a plug-in hydrogen hybrid fuel cell drivetrain that operates under electric power at all times. This advanced fuel cell system is half the weight and cost of today’s fuel cells and can operate in the dead of winter. That’s a major step forward because today’s fuel cells don’t do well when the mercury dips below freezing."

Rivits

Perhaps we could make little rivit decals and place them in the correct positions around the vehicle?

If it operates under electric power at all times, then why are there dual exhausts? I think this vehicle shows promise and greatly reflects the merging of two American icons. Not sure I like the blazing red/orage around the windows.

Very cute little vehicle but being the pessimist that I am 2 things come to mind------ "Our success ... has come from challenging the conventional thinking about what an Airstream is." this statment simply is'nt true. Their sucess has come from the original design of rivits and aluminum. Squarestreams--5th wheels--and motor homes--speak of their failures to break out of the design that made Airstream - Airstream. 2nd, Ford struggles to stay alive and has been Badging truck models with other icons, Harley Davidson, for example for some time some time. Still they continue to falter financially. Perhaps Airstream ought to take a long hard look at what Badging does for the sucess of a company !!---pieman

Hey, now here is the motorhome replacement everyone is looking for!

Neat vehicle....wonder how long it would take to see if it could be allowed in WBCCI?

hmmmmm....

It kind of reminds me of a 'party' limo...with the overhead neon lights! I'm not sure one would use it for flyfishing...

Oh I think it could but it would need some serious retrofitting.

Plenty of room for the DVD's.
What happens to the passengers when this overhead door is opened in the middle of a Minnesota Blizzard... or Colorado snow shower???

Sure to be at least as dangerous as any other Ford vehicle, coming to a dealer near you!
