folding electric bikes

we are looking at folding electric bikes
we want something small, that we can store inside the AS while travelling and then use while camped

there seem to be 100' of OEM's around
prices vary from $500 to over $7000

this is the list we have compiled so far

what have others bought?
any suggestions for class 1 bikes?
any thing important to look at or avoid?

There’s also these folks based here in Seattle. I thought about buying a couple but ultimately ended up getting some Tern 24” non-electric folding bikes. Sorta wish I’d have gone with the Rad bikes though.

I did not see Evelo on your list. I am very happy with mine, mid-drive, CVT, disc brakes.

We also have the Evelo Quest Max electric folding bike. Love the belt drive, mid-motor for climbing steep hills, and internal gearing. Bought a spare battery to double the range. Not cheap, but excellent components. A little on the heavier side.

At 67 pounds each the RAD would be difficult for most RVers to transport and handle. I played with one at a campground a few months ago. My feeling was that they'd probably make a better around town or country roads electric bike.

The weight was one of my concerns as well. I seem people commuting on them around town. My guess is that people are buying these to fold up and store in their apartments.

Hi

One thing to think about on any bicycle: They are going to be pretty dirty after being used for a while. Chains, hubs, and gears will pile up with black guck. The wheels / tires / spokes / brakes will pack up with dirt and mud. Storing them *inside* the RV means hauling all this in with them. Yes, you can play with bags or boxes, that can get a bit complicated ....

Next thing to watch: The weight rating on the frame. Some of these bikes would not have worked for me back in high school. The years since then have not been kind in that regard. You are looking at the weight of you. plus your outdoor gear, plus whatever you are hauling with you (water, cameras, lunch, .....).

They do look like fun

In part yes, in part no. Get a bike without a chain, grease, etc. Mine has a Gates belt, again Evelo. A lot of thought went into their design, I think.
Sure the tires will pick up crud, easily cleaned. But I have a cover for outside storage while camping and I fold it and transport it in the bed of the truck. Folded it is about the size of a large generator except for the handle bars sticking out. Still, I have no storage problem in the truck bed, goes right next to my little Honda generator.

Hi

In the back of the truck or on the bumper, no problem with much of anything on the bike. Once it comes inside and "parks" up against the furniture ... yikes. Working out just how to handle that without a lot of hassle ... not really clear at all.

folding electric bikes

Thank goodness I have a van as a tow vehicle. Makes a great transport vehicle for stuff like bikes. Went to Mackinaw City and the Island last week and took my old Raleigh Sprite with me that I bought in ‘74. Had a friend with me and we also brought her new bike too.Click image for larger version

ID:	347559. Looked at some Ebikes while up there. Most were unimpressive due to their weight and handling. I did however like this Raleigh Detour IE. Handled and rode very much like my Sprite. Going to look further today at a local dealership.

This is what our Tern S10 folding bikes look like when we travel

they both fit back to front in the area where the table is.
as we removed the base and now use the boat based adjustable arm, there is no based to block bikes or your feet when sitting,

they fit in very well
we use a long bungy chord to keep them moving forward
