The only good part about hurricanes is that they aren't good at sneakinup on you. It is a long slow torturous process waiting for the end of the world.

Tampa is in a frenzy. Gas stations look like the gas crisis of the 70's, and HD and Lowe's are even worse. Very surreal.

Thanks! It is a slow moving storm, so we have time to prepare.

that everyone had already purchased enough plywood and supplies to get them thru the hurricanes, specially seeing how Charley was only a little while ago We ALWAYS keep an emergency rations box on hand and ready for what ever comes our way, be it a Hurricane, Tropical Storm, ice storm, drunk taking out a major switching station, or any other type of disaster natural or manmade. Sneakinup, we are watching the storm too. It really affects our jobsites up and down the eastern seaboard. Good luck and hope it swerves....

I was just talking to a contractor who wants to build us a house. He said the only problem might be that we can't afford the plywood anymore, since it's all going down to Florida. He wasn't kidding!

I couldn't get near the home centers to get plywood, so I pulled it off the flooring in my attic. When the storm is over, it goes back up there.

Wanna buy some used plywood? It is hurricane tested.

I don't know about plywood but, 4x8 strand board went from $7.40 to over $20.00 in our town last year. Lowes said it was due to the feds buying it all for Iraq. It has now dropped back to under $10.00 a sheet or that was before Florida's storms.

I never did understand why many people, who live in hurricane areas, wait for the hurricane to strike before they purchase plywood. My Dad lives in the West Palm Beach area and he always has an extra 10 sheets of plywood in his garage all year around. BTW, he buys the plywood for $2/sheet at garage sales after hurricanes when everyone unloads all the plywood they just bought! Go figure!

We made it through with no problems, other than the power was out from 2 PM Sunday to Tuesday evening. Lots of trees and poles down in Gainesville. Most of the power outages in this area are caused by "tree huggers" who won't allow the power companies to properly trim the trees.
