Florida Fires

Ok..Well as you all know the fires have been getting really bad here. This is the first time I have ever seen something like this since living here most of my life.Even though I live on the beach we can smell the smoke from over 15 to 20 mile away.We have seen the main highway to the beach closed off a couple of times but everything is ok and nothing has been harmed yet that we know of.The mojority of the fires were from lightning. If you are visiting though you do not have to worry about anything.Every fire has been controlled and put out so far and it is not as bad as it seems. Now I only know of what has happened in this are but in others I dont.I hope it rains again here soon we need those fires put out.

Fires

A lot of people are worried about it and that is totally understandable. My house though is pretty much out of harms way but I have friends who are not. They wonder if it will restart but now that the winds are blowing and suposed to go to about 20 mph who know what could happen now.Just waiting it out and seeing what happens next.

Hi,

It just started raining in Cape Coral a few minutes ago. The fires arround us have been out for a day or 2, and Lehigh is still standing from it's many fires.

A friend of ours almost lost her motor home last week when a fire got to close, hopefully the rainy season will get here soon.

The whole area has been blanketed with smoke the past week.

Glad you are okay.

Marie

Just had a HUGE thunderstorm during the last hour with tons of RAIN!

That should nicely finish off the 18,000 acre Picayune Strand fire about 10 miles from here. The smoke was so thick around here last week that they closed I-75 to Miami for 3 days!

Sort of a bummer though, as I just had to hang the steaks out for a few hours to get that nice 'smokey' flavor

When we were in Orlando about a week ago, we were at Epcot and could see and smell the smoke from the brush fires about 100 miles north of the Georgia/Florida state line.

It has been getting pretty bad down there. I seem to recall fire hazards being beyond high, but I thought I saw some rain in the forecast soon. Hope it comes, cause the area sure needs it.......

By a strange coincidence, I was just outside snapping a photo of that same thunderstorm. Yes, the clouds are THAT purple:

The smoke from the South Georgia/Northern FLorida fires has drifted all the way up to the Atlanta area--about 200 miles away. We are supposed to get some much needed rain this afternoon.
