that's great.

It's probably a Florida thing. Snow birds taking their Airstreams down, buying some souvenirs and then it spread like some weird pink virus.

Check these out:

"All things Flamingo..."
"The History Of The Plastic Pink Flamingo" and
"What's the deal with those pink flamingos"

Seems that everybody has their own reasons...and stories! They are kind of an American icon - just like Airstreams.

We were just at Yosemite (Tuolumne Meadow Campground) with AS friends from CA...and of course we put the Flamingos out. The Airstreams alone got quite a lot of attention with lots of head-turning, as most campers were tenting with very few trailers and even fewer RVs in the place. (Thank goodness we had small rigs — 19' and 16' — or we'd have been up the proverbial creek.) But we also got quite a few comments on the Flamingos ... the cutest was when a little girl, probably about 3 years kept running away from her mother toward our campsite. I thought she wanted to pet the dogs, but no ... she didn't care about them ... she wanted a closer look at those Flamingos. So she got to give them a hug and she was happy as could be, totally ignoring the dogs. If people ask about the Flamingos, I usually just say, "It's and Airstream thing," and leave it at that.

On the contrary, even IF you ask, you'll never understand. If it doesn't come instinctively, you'll never know.

DW and I used to live in Leominster, MA where the creator of the PF lived and worked. I can't pretend to fully understand it - but I want them for the AS and DW doesn't. Someone talked about PF sheets which I thought could be a great compromise - we'd have them (I win) but very few folks see them (DW wins). Alas - she didn't see it as a win/win :-)

I love them. Can't explain it - don't mean anything by it - just think they're fun.

I have a pair of them standing guard on the walkway to my Airstream shed. They keep unwanted critters at bay!

The pink flamingo thing doesn't only pertain to Airstreams. It is a trailer thing in general. I always associated them with mobile home parks in Florida. I also associate the pink flamingos with vintage or 50's lawn ornaments. I would like to have a couple in the Airstream just because it is a silly tradition. It's just what we trailerites do.

They will grow on you. I have t-shirts with flamingos, capris with flamingos and carry a purse made of fabric with flamingos all over.
I have pink plastic flamingos, flamingo spinners, metal flamingos, skelemingos and a zombiemingo and one flamingo I dress up for the seasons.
Oh, oh. Reading this over I think I might need help.
