As of Friday noon on the news of the fire is 55% controlled. The cautious optimism is it will be out by 7/3. More winds expected today but hopefully the 2200 firefighters are ready. Mr. doorgunner, the author of this thread, and LL are camping near there as I 'speak'. If I understood him correctly he has reserved site 96 at Sugarpine which is just north on 89 from the fire zone. Can we expect a report with pictures? They will be there until 7/6.

We'll be there 27 july thru 6 aug! will post pics then! Guess there will be no need to bring firewood. I understand campfires have been banned. I'm good with that.
Hats off to all the firefighters, we could use some of that texas rain.

Hi everyone. We just got back from an hout long escorted visit back to our house. Everything leading up to our street is charred and gone. We watered what we could and watched the butterflies and birds (so glad to see them!). The fire chief told us that they gave our street a 0% chance of surviving and then just when the firefighters had to pull back, the fire did a 90 degree turn and went around our street. There is burnt forest just a block away and red fire retardant everywhere. They stayed and protected our houses all week, they still are. We feel very fortunate, very sad for our friends and neighbors, emotions raw but glad it is almost all gone. They think it was a cigarette or campfire. We will find out tonight from the fire chief what the exact cause was.

If you've been to Tahoe, you know that it's miles from one end of the lake to the other. The chances of the area you want to visit being directly affected are small.
On the other hand, smoke may still be an issue when you visit.
Dave
The skies are blue and areas you would camp and visit are untouched... it was almost all residential rural area. No smoke anymore, no damage to the city itself or "tourist attractions". Fireworks and all activities are going as previously scheduled. If you were planning a trip up here for the holiday you can still come. You can see charred trees (only on one section out it in county past the "y")and part of one ridge but not bad all things considered.

It is 77% contained. There are still hot-spots and we are still under mandatory evacution in some areas (all residential in county areas). They are in the mop up phase.

we took some pix (only residents can get that close to the damage right now) past the check points and I will post them tonight when Roman brings the camera back home.

We are so glad you and your home survived. I am sure your heart goes out to your neighbors as does everyone elses. With your home spared you will be in a better position to be of help to them. As the news reports disasters bring communities together. Doorgunner and his girlfriend, LL are camping in Sugarpine through next Friday, 7/6. We know this will not be a time to socialize but they are good supportive folks.
Neil and Lynn.
