From North Ops as of 0630 this morning:

Angora Incident, reported at 2730 acres with 40 percent containment. The control problems continue to be large snags, steep rugged terrain with rocks. Downed powerlines in the area along w/ potential of hazardous enviroments while mopping up lost structures. Hwy 50 and 89 are both open with local road closures in the affected area's. Rich Hawkins type 1 IMT will assume command today. The ICP is located at Heavenly Ski Park and is in Unified Command with USFS, South Lake Tahoe City and Lake Valley Fire District. Hwy 50 and 89 are both opened again without restrictions. Acreage increase was due to GPS flight.

275 structures reported damaged / destroyed.
This quote is from one of the fire related websites. I understand that the winds are supposed to be up around 20 30 today with gusts. Not good.

well everybody, if anyone lives in the area or will be in the are this summer many families could use your help. They have lost EVERYTHING. There is a dop off point right next to my house for clothing, blankets, food, bottled water and baby supplies(food, diapers etc...). These families will also need items to begin to re-stock their homes. So, those old pots and pans that you do not use... we have a great use for them! I will be volunteering at the drop off point so if anyone has any questions how they can help out, just email me at lovingtahoe@yahoo.com.

Melissa

Lovingtahoe,
You guys still doing OK? I'm watching the webcam up there and the fire looks like it has changed direction and is running toward the lake.
Be safe, and good luck to you.
Dave

Terrible! I used to live right near the Y and my folks had a cabin just off Pioneer Trail near Ski Run Blvd. Can't get any info on where exactly the fire is. Heard it's in Meyers?

It sounds like it is (was?) about 2 miles from So. Lake Tahoe, started at or near Meyers.
Here are a couple of sites to explore, I think there are links there to other fire related sites.
Also see the KCRA web cam here KCRA.com - Weather Cams

This is a big bummer for both the residents in the area, and the firefighters who are seeing all the work done last night and today go up in smoke. The winds were the wildcard...

As of Friday noon on the news of the fire is 55% controlled. The cautious optimism is it will be out by 7/3. More winds expected today but hopefully the 2200 firefighters are ready. Mr. doorgunner, the author of this thread, and LL are camping near there as I 'speak'. If I understood him correctly he has reserved site 96 at Sugarpine which is just north on 89 from the fire zone. Can we expect a report with pictures? They will be there until 7/6.

We'll be there 27 july thru 6 aug! will post pics then! Guess there will be no need to bring firewood. I understand campfires have been banned. I'm good with that.
Hats off to all the firefighters, we could use some of that texas rain.
