Fine rates on the Interstate

I'll start:

These are not with the trailer in tow....

Wisconsin

On Interstate 94 near Port Washington and in Racine- $267.00 for 16 over 65mph. Issued by state and county police. One radar, one, unmarked pace car in traffic (cheaters).

I think this is way out of line. I personally got these two over the course of 3 years.

Illinois

Interstate 294 south of O'Hare-- 21 miles over a 55mph zone- $75.00 issued by State Police. (Radar/laser) Friend of mine got this one.

As much as I love to drive fast, I'm not sure I'd have the audacity to complain about the fine for getting ticketed for going 81 MPH on the Interstate. Just the chance we take, and the consequence of breaking the law. Don't get me wrong, I'd not like to pay the fine, but I think I'd just suck it up, pay it and leave it alone.

First, I don't think 81 is that bad in a 65. The complaint and/or audacity as you call it was not for the citation, it's the dollar amount that seems a bit high for the "crime." I'm all for doing the time if I do the crime, but I think some places bite when a simple growl will do.

As you can see, I posted two different states and you can already see the difference that 100 miles can make in a citation.

Second, I did suck it up and pay it, what else could have been done?

I posted this since I was wondering what other folks had seen around the country, not as a poor me thing or for the big father talk either. If you have numbers, great, post 'em, but give me a break dad.......

Regards,

Eric

Sounds to me that it was not enough, as it did not slow you down.

Break given, son. Same ticket in California would go about $300.00+, as is evidenced by the 3 my wife has gotten over the past two years.

I also don't think 81 is that bad (heck, that's pretty much going with the flow in southern California). But in CA, if caught, they come down heavy for exceeding the MAX speed limit.

Well, no Ken, it really didn't I suppose. Good of you to point that out, I might have missed that fact....

I don't suppose you happen to have any info to share from Colorado other than your astute observations would you?

Rick, $300+ is pretty steep too (and thanks for the break! ). I guess Illinois pays for it in different places other than the highways. Anyway, that's the kind of info I was lookin for, thanks. Around CA is about $300.00 then. Hope they don't work on a points system out there! ;-)

I gotta figure how much cash I need to save to go on some trips through these states!

Regards,

Eric

They do in fact work on a points system (assuming you mean points awarded by DMV affecting insurance rates, etc.), as I am fairly regularly reminding my leadfooted, lovin' wife, no 65 MPH for her.

I feel your pain.....

Glad the points system is not here, nor are those drone cameras either.

Eric
