White Powder

Heres a follow-up on Port-o-walls...
The 12" for trailer worked and look great.
The 15" on Eldorado looked great at first...
I think the 3" width has a shape holding problem.
3 out of 4 went on very good.
I noticed they did not have the same snap as 12" ones did.
The next day I saw some flutter at edges.
Remounted many times, would not hug sidewall of tire.
I knew was just going to get worse.

So had to come up with something else...
Experimented on a regular white wall tire...the 'white' is much wider than what you see.
Ground around and found 2.25" of white...hummmm.

They came out very nice...
Jacked up one side, and mounted them one by one on front. (FWD)
Idled carb way down and set transmission in reverse.
Took one of the polishers and used one of those flapper discs, 40 grit.
While tire was spinng, held disc in on sidewall till I hit white.
Comes very fast, black over white is only about 1/32" deep.

Heres a youtube video of the first minute...takes about 10 mintutes total for each tire.
Lots of rubber dust..wear mask.

Flapper

Same skinny white wall after grinding...

Time to let it go.

I have a mid 50's Feather Craft boat I'm going to let go with a Yamaha 40hp motor "newer style" motor and tilt style trailer (old trailer, will need to be restored before using). The boat is a little over 12 1/2 feet long with two small cockpit (riding) areas, with engine in the rear area. I purchased the boat about 5 years ago from a person outside of Boston, MA. He had been using it up until the time I bought it(from what he said) the engine was running when I purchase the boat. I've never put the boat in the water, nor started the engine since that day. The boat and motor have been in a heated garage since I purchased it.

Since some Airstream people are into these boats, I wanted to give the folks here first crack at it before placing it on eBay.

I paid $1,000 for the boat and motor, that's what I want for it including the trailer.

I'm currently getting stuff cleared away to get some pics. If you want it, come to Front Royal, VA and get it.

Please "PM" me if you want more info. I'll try and post some pice in the next week.

Currently looking at other toys and need to clean out the toy chest of the ones I'm not using.

Appears to be a 1958 Vagabond

It appears to be 1958 VagaBond, between 12 1/2 and 13 feet long. I was wrong about the motor. It's a 25HP Jonhson. The PO told me he had it re-worked to a 40HP motor because he wanted the HP but not the weight of a 40hp motor.

Again, I've never used the boat, I got it back around 2003, put in the garage, I've never had time to restore the trailer.

I'm not a Feather Craft expert, so you be the judge,

I think what you have there is a 1953, based off the logo plate on the front and the narrow side edges/arm rests. Starting in '56, they had textured aluminum on them, and were about 3" wide.

Very cool boat, though! A little stripper and some elbow grease and she'll shine up like a bullet!

Bud Seymour in Blairsville, GA owns the Avion/pontoon. He came to our Springstream rally in Hiawassee to see the older and NEWER Airstreams and other trailers.

Aluminitus Infection Flaring Up...

Hey JP, I'm trying to convince my wife that I can't live without this:

eBay Motors: 1957 Lonestar antique boat Johnson Golden Javelin motor (item 360105150111 end time Nov-13-08 18:57:50 PST)

Recognize anything familiar?

It's only 200 miles away. I really can't afford not to buy it, right???

TOTALLY! What a deal! I paid $400 + $150 just for my MOTOR! plus, the boat already has all the stuff you need to get it running... the switch plate, for example is another $75, the starter box, I paid $50, plus another $50 for a steering wheel... The point is, get it, get it wet, and if you don't love it, get a vaggie hull later, and switch all the parts over... you'll still be ahead!

Plus, you could peep in that camper he's got for sale, too. haha!

Still no bids-- maybe he'd sell them BOTH to me for $450.

I f no one else bids on it then you could definitely have em both for 450 as there does not appear to be a reserve and the ad is for both.

oh... saw that trailer earlier around here. It was a "shortened" Silverstreak or something like that. Looked like a bit of a hack job. I wonder how the engine would work.

It is a new frame, empty inside Avion. It has been shortened to 16'. Avion never made a trailer that small. Hack job might be a good description.

Ahhh, now I see, you meant both the boat/motor and the camper.
