I'm definitely old-school when it comes to movies. They've got to have:
(1) a male-chauvanist hero;
(2) beautiful women under-dressed for the occasion;
(3) car chases;
(4) gunfights;
(5) snide one-liners.

With that in mind, the movies that stand head and shoulders above the rest for me are the James Bond films. The Indiana Jones movies are good, too. Likewise the Die Hard and Lethal Weapon series. Mind candy, all of them, but entertaining nonetheless.

The Producers - (the original one from 1968, with Zero Mostel, Gene Wilder, and Dick Shawn). Yes, it's from the 60s and yes, it's a bit dated, but for my money this is just about the most brilliantly written movie comedy ever made. Every member of the cast is flawless. If you haven't seen it before, just be patient through the first 10 or 12 minutes, which may seem irritating. After 30 minutes, you'll be completely hooked.

I can't believe no one mentioned this already (sorry if I missed it): Airplane!

"The cockpit? What is it?"
"It's the little room at the front of the plane where the pilot sits. But that's not important right now."

"Excuse me, stewardess. I speak Jive."

"Don't tell me which zone is for stopping and which zone is for loading!"

"Surely you can't be serious."
"I am serious. And don't call me Shirley."

"Looks like I picked the wrong week to stop sniffing glue."
