Failure of a Heartland TT. (Thor Industries)
This story was in today's issue of RV Travel and raises a lot of questions. One has to wonder if it was build quality or abuse/overloading. At any rate it seems that the manufacturer is not interested in helping.

You a started a thread yesterday on Bigfoot and Casita trailers, and now this one today.
You don’t own an Airstream, nor seem intent on getting one, so I am curious as to why you are here and the what and why of your posting.

I seem to recall that Brian had an Airstream last summer on a trip to NM to visit an old church with which an ancestor had been involved. See the OTRA I music thread circa July 2017. [Edit — Post #286] Perhaps he is in the market for a new trailer, like Gene who recently sold his AS and still posts?
Seems appropriate for this Off Topic thread IMO.

I am nearing retirement and am looking at every option for a travel trailer. I am the kind who does extensive research. We have a garage that is 26 feet deep and 10 feet tall so that limits our options if we want to keep it at home, and we do. A 25 foot AS will fit, and it is the first TT we considered because of that, but in my research I am finding others that will fit as well, many of them new on the marketplace. When I first joined this forum we were pretty sure we would get and AS but as we look around and see other options we are going to consider them as well. We can't purchase for about a year due to space limitations (work vehicles will need to go first).
This forum is the best one I have found for Rving and I have learned a ton about RV life, tow vehicles, tires, air conditioners, campgrounds and much more. Most of the RV forums out there have very little participation but not here, this place is always jumping and it has become my favorite hangout.
For now Airstream is still on the table but I hope if we choose another brand we will still be welcome here. I know there are some others on the forum who do not own an AS or kin, there are many topic here that apply to all Rvers.
Several weeks ago I had considered starting a thread about being a non AS forum member but I procrastinated on it, maybe because I wasn't sure how it would be received.

Wise is the Buyer who does their research. BTW we no longer own an Airstream either.
The link you shared was also posted on 9/13.

It’s not required that one own, nor plan to own, an Airstream to be a member and/or post here, and non owners are certainly welcome.
Your thread on Bigfoot and Casita trailers particularly caught my eye, tho.
I was just curious.

Peter,
That was a rental trailer which we did just to see how we would like it, and we did.

Heartland Failure
I viewed the whole thread about the Heaartland frame failure. Looks like a classic case of overweight and rough roads. They stated they had never Cat Scaled there rig. Trailer was 3 1/2 years old and living in it full time with 4 people. They had a crack repaired previously. (Trailer talking to them saying OVERWEIGHT).
Take a look at Lance Travel Trailers. We were impressed with them before going ahead with Airstream purchase. Model 1985 was the one we liked. Very nice floorplan for a 24' trailer. will set you back about $40k depending on options you pick. Very nicely built. Get the Lift option if you buy one. Gives you additional 2+" of clearance. Happy Hunting.

I think there is much, much more to this story than is being disclosed.

We like the Lance but it is too tall for our 10' height restriction.

Truth be told if buying a trailer was not being delayed by the ramping down of my business, selling off work trucks and retiring we would have bought the 25 foot Airstream last year. But since we are not really ready this has given me idle time in which I have run across other designs I did not know existed last year. I spend most of my precious spare time these days reading about and researching travel trailers and the RV lifestyle, it is what keeps me going, something to look forward to, and something I can hardly wait to do after many years of hard work.
Things have made me realize how little time there really is, like most all my friends and family are now retired, my wife is retired, and people we know that get sick. We lost a good friend to cancer, he was only 58, never got a chance to retire. I have followed your story as well which has had an impact on me, seeing what you have gone through but picked yourself up and just kept going. My wife says she couldn't do it alone.
So I am here waiting out my time like a prisoner soon to be released, living the RV life through people here and preparing for my big day whether it be Airstream or SOB. (If only the AS shower was taller & the AC worked at 115 degrees!)
Some would say why not close up tomorrow and hit the road but it's just not that simple when you have great clients and employees who I will not leave out in the cold. I am working on a deal to have another reputable company absorb all of that but it is not an overnight process.
Didn't intend to write a novel here but truthfully I felt a little put out by your post, like maybe I shouldn't be posting about all kinds of brands on an Airstream forum, although I was careful to keep them in the "Off Topic" area. Until recently most of my posts have been in the tow vehicle, hitches and music threads. It has crossed my mind that I don't own an AS and that maybe this means I shouldn't be here, hope not.

I feel bad for that family. It appears they lost their trailer with no insurance, warranty, etc.
True they may be overweight, but seriously, dealers with load a trailer on anything you drive on the lot any never warn you about cargo limits, why that may scare away a sale.

We never know when our lives may be upended in a second, and I empathize with what you are saying.
As I said before, owning or planning to buy an Airstream is not a prerequisite to being here, but this is an Airstream forum.
A thread on the pros and cons and comparisons of other brands to each other, followed by this one, caught my attention, and I asked, that’s all.
This is a great forum, with a wealth of knowledge and experience willingly shared.
Maggie

I think we can merge the two threads, and minimize overlap.

If your interested in the best trainable RV is suggest New Horizon, Spacecraft RV or RV Factory. All build custom 5th wheels, very limited production and $150k and up. Very heavy require F450 Dually or Freightliner and too high for your garage. On our 13th RV and 4th AS but considering a New Horizon
