expedia.com WARNING
(expletive deleted)
Vengance is mine, sayeth the Ford! Help me find a way to beat the crap out of expedia!
I have to go to Dallas for a 2 day conference in February. I looked up flights via expedia.com and placed my reservations. BUT oooops, I made my return flight for 03/09/07 instead of 02/09/07. Saw it as I was printing the Travel confirmation. Called expedia and spent 13 minutes on hold - and the nice man cancelled the transaction for $30 (that turned into $50 - $5 for the "booking fees" and $15 for non-refundable travel insurance). Then I tried to re-book using the same credit card.... which was rejected because there wasn't enough credit left on it. It was a $500 gift card.
I had to use another card to make the correct flight reservations. Then I called Expedia back. Another 15 minutes on hold and I was told that it would take 7 to 10 days to get the money back. I called the card issuer (20 min on hold) and they told me that I'd have to contact American Airlines or Expedia to get the money faster.
I decided to wait the 7 days - which was up on the 19th. Today I still don't have the money back. Called American Airlines, Called Expedia - still no love. After 44 minutes (20 on hold) she tried to contact the issuing bank and disconnected me.
If anyone knows a way I can put a real hurt on expedia.com please let me know.

as they say buyer beware.measure twice cut once, and all that good stuff . I've done what you just did, but I was told you did it not us.I got my money back plus all handling fees. went to the credit card company right away told them what happened and they got my money back. took 2 weeks to do it.It was on my Discover card..

So what are you warning us about? Warning us to not have you book our flights, LOL. I feel your pain, I have been in simialar situations. There really isn't anyone to complain to. Its just a big complex system out there operated by sheep. Good luck, hope you get suprised with a quick refund.

Lots of good tips on how to fight the big guys too. You'd be surprised how many people have gotten resolution once they start dropping the consumerist's name.

You have to pitch a fit! We wanted our money from Expedia back because we found out that it was 300.00 cheaper to just call a hotel and make reservations ourself. It took them 3 seconds to take the money out, 1200.00, but wanted to take 7 days to put it back! Well, after listening to my husband, and he can be very loud, they somehow managed to put the money right back. Dont let them give you the run around, because they definately will. I am with you in telling everyone not to use them!!

We had a similar experience with a Price Line hotel debacle several years ago. I don't use any of the "you can never go back" rip-off services.

Odd story
One of the people who works in our office had to fly to Arkansas for her dad's funeral. Plane tickets at the "compassionate" rate were $600. She went with Travelocity and found a package deal for hotel AND plane tickets for $289...... go figure.
I was told that it would be 7 days for a refund. Then 14. I used a gift card - so God knows if I'll EVER see the money again. I did recieve a promise that it would be back within 24 hours (starting when they didn't say!).
1300 miles is a bit far to go for a 2 day conference. BUT... next time?
