You never told me you had a shop! And cool avatar, too, by the way. One of these days I'm going to get back up there and let you teach me how to buck rivets--I need to do that when I replace my vista view windows with 0.050 sheet and insulation.

I think it would be a great thing to offer at the DenCO May Maintenance Rally or it would be even better suited at the RMVAC rally as a seminar, kinda like the polishing demonstration we have each year. Either that or something more low-key like a couple of VAC'rs could make it an afternoon field-trip...

Cool! Let's talk & figure out something that we could set-up ~

Thanks!

Shari

Just heard from our son, grandson, and their friends enroute to blizzard-bound Colorado per my earlier post on this thread. For anyone wondering, they dropped down to 50 Hwy, they were approaching Pueblo, and except for a few rough patches of packed snow, he reported easy driving. He's calling ahead to check conditions, plans to go 50 to Salida and then turn north to Leadville and over to Copper Mountain. My heart still stands still, but he talked with the resort who told him some of their employees came to work this morning from Leadville without incident. He still has a long drive, but they are relieving one another driving. He says most of the heavy snowfall is east of there. Forum friends, I'll appreciate your good thoughts tonight for my dear, determined son and his carfull. For everyone out there, we hope the heaviest snow and winds are over and you are safely tucked in or plowed out! Thanks, G

Deep and white in Denver ...

Well, it looks like we're going to have a White Christams in Denver this year! The last two days were spent snowblowing neighbor's sidewalks and driveways, and shoveling while they used my John Deere 24" snowblower. Yesterday after dark we have a great community pork chop dinner washed down with smooth homemade wine. Today's lunch break was New England clam chowda and crusty bread, with beer, wine and water for the truly thirsty. It's been a two day block party in snowsuits.

Ruby got thoroughly dusted under her roof, while the 64 Globe Trotter has snow above its wheel wells and door bottom. Snow depth exceeds 3' in my backyard, but is not really apparent in the photos. I have 8 days to shovel out the GT before heading off to Rocky Mountain National Park, where I'll ring in the New Year with close Vintage friends from our Denver Unit.

Looks like you got thru the storm pretty well.

It also looks like a preview of what's coming for us here

I finally got to work this morning and so far I'm the only one here. The worst part of this is I don't have any Airstream parts here to fabricate new or repair. I can't believe I got myself into this opportunity and am now wasting it. I have alot of banana wrap that needs repair.

Great pictures! Take it easy with the shovels and snow blowers--all that snow is going to be around a while, I imagine. Just got word that our kids are heading out on the slopes so they made their journey safely. Just imagine all the stories that this storm is making! ~G

Oh man Georgia! Based on the looong, circuitous route they ended up taking, I would say they were pretty determined! Hopefully the return trip is not as eventful ~ and Copper Mountian doesn't dissappoint! I love Copper we've had season tickets there several years!!!! Unfortunately I have a houseful of non-skiing family arriving today & tomorrow...no skiing for me! Bummer!!!

you saw me in the middle of the storm here http://www.airforums.com/forum...2-post559.html

but the great thing about Colorado is the sun comes out and it's like springtime. You still need boots to keep your toes warm, but shoveling out in a T-shirt is the usual dress, and don't forget the sunscreen!!

The pile on the side of the driveway is about 6-1/2' deep. I could've made a very cool igloo today, the lower layers of snow were packed but light and it was easy to scoop out 2x2x1' blocks with the snow shovel.

You can see the normal snow depth was about 30" here in Palmer Lake. (No, I don't intend to dig the cars out for a day or two--the Explorer is going to have to do for the rest of the week.)

PS--bad planning, Aerowood!

Zep, that's how our drive looked two weeks ago! Since then, we hit high 60's and even the parking lot piles are just a memory. Yours will be there for a white Christmas ~G

Zepp, looks like you got a good deal of drifting snow there. We had about 36" fall around our house with minor drifting. We never lost power, but we were ready for it if it did happen. The trailer was charged up, propane tanks filled and ready for lifeboat duty if needed.

I have spent the past three days digging out, or more importantly, digging a path the the hot tub. Pretty normal stuff for our altitude of 8,000 feet. We've already had to do this once this year with a two foot dump a few months ago. I say, BRING IT ON! I grew up in this stuff, and love to see it when it piles up by the foot!

Not looking good...

...for our New Year's Eve weekend campout.

We've still not melted off from last week - about 12" still on the ground around Maxwell & in our alley, snow's starting to fall again and we should be getting another 18" by Saturday at home & 30" is predicted in Estes Park, our destination...I'm adventurous, but not stupid, just disappointed!

dang it...

Shari, it's indeed not looking good for your weekend camp-out! I don't even know if the National Park has the campground plowed out from the last storm. You'll just have to come up next summer to make up for it, it usually doesn't snow too much in June... though I do remember a 4th of July not too many years ago when it was spitting snow for the fireworks! Stay safe, and stay home- there'll be another day.

Thanks for the firsthand report...

About 6 of us were headed up to Moraine Park Campground it's supposed to be open "year 'round", but then...so is DIA - which I just heard is canceling flights again today.
