Even in grief, love and appreciation

I just ran across a letter from Fred "Pop" Riley to my Mother, Helen Byam Schwamborn.

Pop was the 1st International President of the Wally Byam Caravan Club.

His beloved Minnie had just passed away. The had been together for almost 55 years.

The first person he wrote to was my Mother.

His post script is the part of the letter I want to share with you.

"I thank Wally from the bottom of my heart for the wonderful friends through the association with him and the caravans, they have all been wonderful to me.? Pop August 4, 1960.

I share this with you to bring out the true meaning of what the iconic Airstream, Wally Byam, and caravanners mean to the lives of so many. Pop Riley was grieving, but his Airstream, Caravan, and Club friends meant to him.

Pop went on to remarry and to keep an active life in the WBCCI until his death.

Truly a great Caravanner, and a great understanding of what the WBCCI is, should be, and what friends mean.

What a lovely testament to the closeness of the Club. I can speak in regard to the unit level that this closeness still exists today. It's all about the relationships and Airstreams are part of the glue that brings it all together.
