Ebay shenanigans?

So your bidding on a polished sweet Airstream trailer; seller has offered the trailer at an amazing starting price of only $5,000.00 with no "no reserve"; you bid $5,100.00, hoping no one else spots this gem.

https://www.ebay.com/itm/1969-Airstr...InE:rk:41:pf:0

With only seconds to go in the listing, your $5,100.00 bid has amazingly held up unchallenged. As the seconds tick off your excitment grows, and then, POOF, the listing ends; "what the he..." you exclaim; nobody out bid you?

The seller e-mails you to say he had a "substantial offer", and ended the listing. You read the item description, and sure enough, there it is; the seller states he'll end the auction if he gets a substantial offer.

So much for "no reserve".

I wonder what Ebays policy is on this?

Cheers

I am inclined to believe that there was no better offer, but that the "seller" just wasn't about to let the trailer go for $5,100. If so, it's pretty sleazy, but I doubt that ebay will - or can - do anything about it.

Most likely this ^^^^.

There are also scams on Ebay. I was high bid on a class "b" and things went South as I tried to finalize the process.

Bad signs:
- Person wasn't where rv was so could not provide any additional Vin# or other pics.
- I asked them to call me but they "couldn't speak clearly now due to recent throat surgery" (probably they did not have an Oklahoma accent).
- Sent me an email asking payment to an Ebay "escrow" company outside of Ebay email. I sent it to Ebay support who replied it was (as I already suspected) a fraud.

Be careful.

How about Airstream of Scots..... listings of over 70 new trailers starting at $100 bid?
What a waste of time, this is what happens when they have no listing fee.

E-bay is a good source for parts and stuff, but it's totally frustrating.
I pretty much only shop the "BIN" offers. I hate waiting 9 days and get out bid by $0.01 with 2 seconds to go. There are software programs which will bid for you in the last 10 seconds up to a predetermined limit.
As far as e-bay, yes there are rules, but they seem to be applied randomly.
It's worse for sellers. E-bay takes 3.5%(??) then if the buyer uses PayPal he can ask for his money back 90 days later!

It's six months. Don't ask how I know this.

I'm not inclined to believe.....I know that is what is going to happen. It's kinda crappy though.

As far as the predetermined max limit for automatic bidding....DON"T DO IT! I got burned when I was out bid on an item, only to have the seller e-mail me that the winner backed out and that meant I was now the winner. I explained to him that how did I know he didn't have a friend bid up the item to take advantage of automatic bidding; and thusly I refused to pay. He trashed my Ebay rating for non payment.

Too many games on Ebay for me.

Cheers

PS I'm going to watch that listing just to see what happens.
