Today my parents came in second in an Airstream auction on eBay. After the auction closed they received an email asking them if they would buy the trailer for their last bid price. This sometimes happens when either the winning bidder backs out of the purchase (or more commonly, when someone has run up the action to get the highest price out of the real bidder and then the seller offers the item at that price). The email came from someone OTHER than the seller of the trailer.
After looking at the email, my parents talked with the owners who said the trailer had sold to someone out of state and they were picking it up this weekend.
Odds are someone was lurking around the auction in an attempt to get the loser to think they could buy the trailer by paying them. eBay buyer beware.
