Haven’t left yet. My wife is a travel nurse so we are trying to rearrange her schedule. Should be out by Saturday or Sunday. Heading toward Pensacola then to AL if this sucker makes land fall and then sweeps into the gulf

Thanks for the update. Suggest looking at the storm tracks in Mollysdad's post before yours. You might be better off skipping Pensacola IMO, and just heading north along with many other folks probably.

Traffic jams may be the worst impact of Dorian before he hits, especially if you wait too long to leave IMO.

Good luck,

Peter

PS -- Buoy #41046 has photos of the sea around it.

If the buoy survives the night, tomorrow morning's sunrise might be spectacular!

Hi Peter. We are in Fort Wilderness right now, preparing to leave tomorrow late morning. Heading back north to LI. Stopping overnight in Santee, SC and then in MD. We should be able to beat this storm north.
Thanks for the updates.

I’ve gotten a couple of PM from fellow forum members checking on me, which btw, is awesome and I’m extremely grateful.
I’m in Virginia at the moment and I was planning on going home this week but obviously that’s not a wise choice so I’m heading to the Airstream park in Tennessee. I had tried to get reservations at 50 other places ( seriously, I was trying to find a place all day yesterday) and everything from middle Georgia south was full. Partly because of the Labor Day weekend and possible Cat 4 coming in.
There’s a very nice Airstream park in north Georgia and the closest town, Helen, is kinda unique and fun.
Thank you all for thinking about me and making sure I’m safe. Deeply touched.

FYI the wave height plot in Post #39 appears to be going vertical -- now at 9.2' .

Large waves propagate out, way ahead of the eye, in big storms like this.

The air pressure appears to be heading for verticality also -- down!

Stronger winds and gusts should follow next.

Peter

PS -- Good to hear from you Lauri, how was New England?

Local weather tells us here in Jacksonville that that northern turn component will bring the storm up north giving NE Florida lots of rain and wind from Tuesday to Thursday next week. We're expected to get 12" . The real problem will be all the traffic from south Fla up. It gets real bad if they wait till the last moment to leave.

Yup . . . Traffic problems may be on the horizon.

The wave height in Post #39 just jumped to over 12’ .

Dorian

With all of the cancellations and our out of state trip bagged due to a Monday return, we'll be driving the 15 minutes and spending the next three nights in a waterfront spot at Ft Desoto.

. . .
Wave heights are now over 20' with wind gusts of 58 knots [~65 MPH]. [See charts in Post #39.]

Maximum sustained winds ~105 MPH with higher gusts. Forward speed ~12 MPH.

https://www.nhc.noaa.gov/text/refres.../300254.shtml?

Most of the models forecasting Dorian's track seem to be focusing on the Palm Beach area as the most likely for landfall. Doesn't one of our national leaders have a hotel or golf course there?

Looking further out on the horizon, Dorian is forecast to go over NDBC Station SPGF1 on Settlement Point, Grand Bahama Island in ~2-3 days.

https://www.ndbc.noaa.gov/station_pa...?station=spgf1

This location is roughly 60 miles east of Palm Beach FL.

The following familiar combined chart might start showing signs of Dorian by Sunday morning IMO.

There is no Wave Height data at this land-based weather station.

Yea, wave height on land is a big problem! But not unheard of.

Talking

When they start adding Wave Height sensors to land stations, we may know we are in trouble?

. . .
Looks like the eye went by earlier.

Great photos this morning of an angry sea.

Thanks to our little friend floating out there all alone in the ocean!

As some know we sold our AS about a year ago and bought a 42' 5th wheel. Which we took down and put on a site we bought in FL the year before. It's in Titusville, FL.

Looks like we may be getting back into an AS after this is all over, not much confidence at this point that the 5th wheel or our Florida Room will be salvageable.

We have said for years, "want to make God laugh, make a plan".

If you are in FL, be careful, we survived a Cat 5 storm, just, it's not much fun.

JUST bought into Travelers Rest & Resort, Dade City Florida. (Pasco County)
Great timing, eh? Have a full tank of diesel.

Do I stay or get on I-75 and boogie North? Long time Floridians, please recommend!

Thanks, Paula
