In the movie "RV", Robin Williams called the GPS Lola. Works for me.

Our Magellans were referred to as Maggie. And the one that used voice commands would respond to that name, weirdly enough.

Since they stupidly routed us astray and were a total PITA to update, they all have been replaced with the Navigon app on an iPhone.

Admittedly, it does not understand I'm towing a trailer, but my prime navigation source is a Cracker Barrel location map for the general route and meal stops.....

I somtimes call my Garmin an idiot when it is trying to send me 500 miles out of my way to avoid a simple pass I can negotiate with a coffee in one hand.

Anyone ever use the Garmin Voice Studio?
Garmin | United States | Garmin Voice Studio

It let's you record your own voice for the commands. It disables street names but the directions are all you . They provide a script, you press the record button and record your own input. Now you can change "recalculating" to something else, like "oh dear, I've forgotten my meds today" or whatever you like.

It's good for a gag recording, especially if you're going on a trip with someone. You can put in your own statements and change "1 mile" to "3 parsecs" or include the person's name in the command. "Rich is turning right at the stop sign, Bob, is that OK with you?"

Sorry, I guess I'm a fuddy-duddy. Why name a GPS device?

I guess I don't have a creative mind. I can only name my Airstream, "Silver Mistress" because its silver and high maintenance and a bitch sometimes.

Folks name their digital toys to personify them, plus, if it has a name it's easier to cuss it out when it screws up. That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

Dumb Arse. We get a kick out of some of the pronunciations. Plus it tried to send me down someone's driveway to get to the main road.

All of our GPS units are called 'Silicon Sally'. That said, one of them may now become 'The Bitch in the Box'. I kinda like it, and it does seem appropriate for that particular unit.

The voice in the Garmin we call Funky Lady. Since it is voice activated, she will only answer to her name.
